There are many shootings in Bedford, Indiana that have led to the death of individuals. One such shooting that has had a negative impact on the community is the 1999 massacre of nine people at a small church. The shooter, John Ziegler, killed six people and injured five others before being shot and killed by police. The attack left the community reeling and it remains one of the most infamous incidents in Bedford history. In 1969, an individual named Jack Vail opened fire on a group of students at Purdue University with a rifle he had purchased from an online auction. Vail killed four students and injure thirteen others before himself. This attack left Purdue University shaken and it remains one of the most notorious shootings in school history. In 2002, Aaron Alexis attacked shoppers at Target store in Minneapolis with a shotgun while wearing Shooters Eye Protection (SEP) while purchasing ammunition. Alexis fatally shot four people before turning the gun on himself inside the store. This event left two children dead and fifteen injured as well as Creating serious public safety concerns for retailers across Minnesota which continue to this day. Bedford, Indiana is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana and the county seat of Bedford County. The population was 41,769 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Bedford County after Indianapolis and Bloomington. Bedford was founded in 1821 by General David Potter as a post office called Pottersburg; this name was changed to Bedford in 1828 when Pottersburg became part of Evansville Township (now Fort Wayne). The first courthouse in town was built on what is now Market Street in 1836; it served until 1840 when a new courthouse was built on Broadway near where current First Baptist Church stands today. It remained there until 1922 when it moved to its present location on Main Street east of I-465/I-465 South. Development along Main Street accelerated during World War II with numerous factories being developed such as Matson Navigation Company’s salt works north of town at present day US-27 across from Griggs Field Airport just south of Interstate 465/I-465 South ( formerly known as I-465/Old US 27) which helped contribute to growth along both streets over time culminating with construction of Lincoln Memorial Drive between Main Street and Interstate 465/I-465 South which projects into downtown today through buildings once located along both streets including Bankers Trust Tower (1922), First Baptist Church (1836), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plantation (1942), Griggs Field Airportmodernized 2011(2006) - now Business Jetportof Indianapolis In 1962 an airport complex consisting of five runways – three parallel with onestranded asphalt runway alignment – came into being at Griggs Field Airport adjacent to modern Business Jetportof Indianapolis while operations continued ashore at old Terminal 2 adjacent to former Eastern Airlines hangar still used by that airline today following their divestiture from American Airlines parent company Northwest Airlines effective June 30th 1961 The Robert E Lee Museum opened its doors on September 8th 2009 insideFormer Hammond Air Force Base Thunderbird Wing rememberance park off I 467 just east side Of RD Hwy IN
