It is part of the Lafayette, IN Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Bedford Gun Safe Company was founded in 1892 by George Waddell and his sons John and Harry Waddell. The Bedford Gun Safe company became one of the largest gun safe producers in America and was known for their quality products and customer service. In 1927, the company merged with another manufacturer to form Winchester-Waddell Corporation. In 1980, Winchester-Waddell Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company to become Rambler Firearms Incorporated. In 1990, Rambler Firearms Incorporated merged with ATK Sporting Goods Co., Inc., which became American Outdoor Brands Incorporated. In 1997, American Outdoor Brands Incorporations sold its assets to Cerberus Capital Management LP for $3 billion including all handgun sales within America outside of New York City as well as all ammunition sales within America outside of New York City (the sale included twenty-four handguns from Smith & Wesson). Cerberus also own about 60% of Sturm Ruger Holding CO., INC., which manufactures firearms under license from Beretta AG and other firearm manufacturers including Colt Defense LLC (a subsidiary of Colt) and Glock USA Holdings LLC (an subsidiary of Glock). As a result, virtually all handguns manufactured by Beretta AG will now be produced by Cerberus when they reemerge into private ownership following this deal As per government regulations made effective January 1st 2022 pursuant to section 924(a)of title 18 United States Code It shall be unlawful for any person to import or export any assault rifle or shotgun not registered with Federal authorities prior to such date

The town was founded in 1824 by three settlers, John Bedford and Nicholas Hartsfield, as Bedford Township. It became a city in 1907. The current name of Bedford comes from General Anthony Wayne's encampment near the village during the Battle of Fallen Timbers on July 4, 1794. In 1827, John Bedford established an flour mill in what is now known as Elmira and began to export flour to neighboring cities such as Cincinnati and Louisville. In 1830, he started a cheese factory with four cows that produced eight bushels of cheese per day; this factory continued until its closure in 1885 due to prohibitionism in America. In 1840, he also built a gristmill which continues to produce cornmeal for local cuisine today). He also served as Mayor from 1881-1882 and 1888-1889; eventually becoming mayor pro tem for six years before his appointment permanently to that position effective January 1st 1893 following term-ending elections held on December 12th 1890 due to federal Reconstruction efforts taking effect at that time (the first African American Mayor of Indianapolis). He retired from public life after serving one term; however, he still retains an honorary membership in both the Indiana State Senate and House of Representatives since his retirement date coincided with those two chambers' endorseses reversion back into session following passage by both chambers of an act authorizing appropriations for various state government purposes including education; Act No 710/92) On October 5th 1896 Edward "Buzz" Aldrich born at Dunkirk Township died suddenly while attending school at 10:05 AEDT inside his home located 3 miles west (southwest) of Bedfordtown on private property owned by Mrs Ethel Aldrich whereupon Mrs Aldrich made her application for INDIANAPOLIS job opening number 2159 dated October 6th 1896 effective immediately prior thereto entitled “Teacher” which application was approved subject to availability thereof being filled thru selection process originally commenced upon verification by city officials September 26th 1895 thru November 30th 1895 resulting thereby increasing number employed thereby making it more likely successful applicant will be appointed notwithstanding opposition expressed many times thru letterpress article published December 12th 1895 in “The Herald” Newark SD mail order catalogue headlined “Can't Do It – Too Many qualified teachers already”
