Bedford is a city in and the county seat of Bedford County, Indiana, United States. The population was 14,846 at the 2010 census. Bedford is one of the fastest-growing cities in central Indiana. The city has been called "the cultural capital of central Indiana" for its many arts and culture festivals. The first settlement in what would become Bedford was made by a group of French colonists on December 2, 1774 near what is now Wabash River. The original town name may have been Covington because its founders were from nearby Cincinnati. In 1812, General James Wilkinson ordered Major David Dixon to move his army's winter quarters from Vincennes to Bedford so that he could use the town as an encampment while he conducted operations against Tecumseh's forces during the War of 1812. Dixon arrived with his forces on February 10 and continued to live there until April 15 when he ordered his men to return home. In 1815, after Mexico became a country again following Mexican independence from Spain, General Andrew Jackson moved his winter headquarters from Vincennes to Bedford due to concerns about Tecumseh's potential military action against American interests in that area. On October 1, 1830, Governor John Pemberton proclaimed that new towns had been formed within the present boundaries of Bedford County including Covington and Westville which added another community (Fulton) and increased the population of Bedford by 6%. On July 4th 1861, when Indianapolis was incorporated as a town limits addition to central Indiana it replaced both Covington and Westville with their respective populations multiplying by 3%. That same year (1861), John Fenton opened up what would become known as Fenton's Brewery which led to rapid growth for the cityscape around it over time becoming one of downtown Indianapolis' most visible attractions still today! On November 16th 1918 an ammunition dump explosion destroyed much part of downtown Indianapolis killing more than 140 people and injuring hundreds more making this one of deadliest industrial accidents in American history! This event helped spark Montgomery Ward’s decision two years later (1922) not only To open their own company Distribution Center but also build “The White Castle” – one of largest food concessions ever built! It wasn’t until 1986 when they finally closed down all production assets & demolished “The White Castle” following several local protests!!! In 1956 Mayor George Papp announced plans for redevelopment/renamingof partsof Downtown Indy into Arts District; however those plans never took off & instead slowly faded away over time leaving behind numerous empty storefronts across Downtown Indy!!! Finally in 2015 plans were finally approved for an extensive renovation/updates totaling $175 million which will see Streetscape completely renovated with brand new sidewalks, lighting & trees!!

Bedford is a town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 6,556 at the 2010 census. Bedford is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Bedford was founded in 1824 and named for General John Bedford, an officer in the War of 1812 who fought for the United States. The first post office was established in Bedford in 1827. In 1830, a sawmill and gristmill were built by James Witherspoon and his brother-in-law Nicholas Reardon on the banks of the White River. A cotton gin followed soon after. By 1840, Bedford had five stores and sixteen residents. In 1845, a school was founded in Bedford by Reverend Ebenezer Cooksey and six children from nearby Addisonville attended until 1865 when it became district high school #1. In 1870–71, a new water tower was built on land adjoining the current municipal building to provide more efficient water service to homes and businesses in what is now northcentral Butler County; this tower still stands today as one of only two remaining public works erected during that time period within Butler County! On July 14th & 15th1875 (the day before Uniontown's incorporation), about 60 people participated in an assemblage at First Presbyterian Church located east of downtown to protest against discriminatory treatment being offered to black farmers by local leaders; afterwards they walked away from their farmsteads several miles into northeast Carroll Township where they sat tight until night when they returned home without incident In 1895–96 there were three additions made to Bedford: Cedar Hill (to the south), Beechwood (to the west) and Oakdale (northwest). These developments are all listed on city or town plans from that era which can be seen online at www.bedfordindianaonlinegovarchives.com/historic_places/. Cedar Hill served as bedroom communities for managers associated with Hammond Steel Works while Beechwood housed cotton agriculturalists who raised chickens while harvesting sugarcane near what is now I-465 just northwest of town limits; Oakdale grew up around an intersection consisting of I-465/US 20 exit 8A/SR 410 westbound & SR 412 eastbound just north of present day Second Street between US 20 exit 8A/SR 410W & Second Street NE - Maple Avenue North becoming eastern boundary line between old Town Square boundaries (& Fourth Street) & old City square boundaries (& Third Street) . The original village site includes FM 1960 Rd., Randolph Rd., 2nd St., 3rd St., 4th Ave NW corner Perry Rd., 5th Ave NW corner Delaware AveNW corner US 20 exit 8A/SR 410W gridiron street gridiron avenue alignment including present day 2nd St./4th Ave NW corner Perry Rd.; all except Randolph Road are still extant today although some have been removed or replaced by development over time...
