During the American Revolution, Gunpowder Magazine located in Bedford produced ammunition for both muskets and pistols. Ammunition production began here in 1795 and continued until 1837! This Ammo Company played an important role in helping contribute to America's success during her struggle for independence from Great Britain!

In 1898, the United States Arms Manufacturing Corporation was founded in Bedford by Colonel Robert Ewing and his son-in-law Joshua Ladd. This company produced rifles, shotguns, handguns, explosives products, and other items.
Bedford, Indiana is a town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 6,611 at the 2010 census. The name "Bedford" comes from English settlers who named it after Bedford in England. The first permanent residents of Bedford were the Smiths family who arrived in 1814 and settled on the east side of the river. William Troup came to Bedford in 1827 and opened a store there which became one of the most successful businesses in town. In 1830, John Beaumont founded what is now known as Beaumont & Company grocery store and post office which became one of the largest stores in central Indiana. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln visited Bedford while he was running for President and purchased flour from local farmer James Hardin for his campaign supplies. In 1872, Edwin Hargrave established Anna Furniture Company here which produced many famous pieces of furniture such as antiques and bureau chairs. Other early businesses include J union Dairy (now part of PepsiCo), First National Bank (founded 1870) and Gadsden Mills (1893-1910). The community experienced rapid growth during World War II when many factories were built to help produce munitions during the war effort including beds, radios, trucks and other equipment used by military members and their families across America. After World War II ended, production slowed but continued until 1984 when all factories closed except Gadsden Mills which still produces some products today including tractor parts, agricultural machinery and children's clothing items
