Bedford, Indiana is home to one of the most important and significant ammunition manufacturing plants in the United States. The factory was founded by Samuel Colt in 1857, and it has been an integral part of the city's economy ever since. At its peak, the factory produced over a million rounds of ammunition a day. Today, it remains an important cultural and historical landmark in the city. The factory was originally built to produce artillery ammunition. In 1859, however, Samuel Colt decided to start producing rifles instead. That same year, he established his company's first Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Bedford Township. With this new venture, Samuel Colt became one of America's leading firearms manufacturers. He soon developed a successful line of rifle ammunition that helped make his company one of the largest suppliers of firearms in the nation. In 1868, Samuel Colt partnered with John Witherspoon to establish another Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Lebanon County. This company soon became known as Winchester Arms Corporation. In 1889, Winchester Arms Corporation merged with Golden West Arms Company to form American Armory Corporation. American Armory Corporation continued production at its original site until 1911 when it moved to new facilities on State Street in downtown Bedford Junction (now within walking distance of both the old and new factories). At American Armory Corporation, Samuel Colt developed what would become known as their "Centerfire" cartridges- shells that were designed specifically for use with rifles such as shotguns and handguns (rather than just handguns). These cartridges were very successful and helped make Winchester one of America's leading firearms companies during much of the 20th century. In 1912–1913, American Armory Corporation produces what is considered by many historians to be their final masterpiece-the Model 1903 Springfield Rifle! This rifle was designed specifically for military usage and featured features that would later become standard on all modern battlefield rifles! It was also World War I's first Assault Rifle!American Armory Corp.'s success notwithstanding (due mainly to competition from other firearm manufacturers), they continued production until 1923 when they merged into Bethlehem Steel Company effective January 1st that year - becoming Bethlehem Firearms Incorporated!

Bedford is a small town in Miami County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,559 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Decatur, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bedford is home to Holy Cross Catholic High School and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church/Church of God in Christ. Bedford was founded by members of the Methodist church in 1814 as a log cabin community on the north side of what is now River Road (now State Road 446). The first post office opened in 1816 and was called "Bellefontaine." In 1824, the name was changed to "Bedford" after Bedfordshire, England. The town became a stop on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in 1904 and grew rapidly with its location on the former site of Wabash Paper Company. The paper company closed in 1929 and most residents left for other towns around that time; however, some stayed to form The Bedford Group which still owns much property within town limits today. In 1951, when Indianapolis merged with Bloomington-Normal into one city, Bedford lost its position as an incorporated village but continued to exist as a bedroom community for Indianapolis during that time period until it too merged into Indy sometime later. In 1971, when Hammondsville developed adjacent to Bedford on land that had been donated by Amedee Bedloe (a local industrialist), most of what is now Hammondsville originated from buildings built within Bedford during those years including three high schools (St John's Episcopal School; Holy Cross Catholic High School; and Southwestern Adventist Junior College) as well as many businesses such as Marshall's Hardware Store and Cook Brothers Department Store which remain extant today inside Hammondsville boundaries despite not being part of Bedford itself until recent times.

Bedford, Indiana is a small town in Johnson County, Indiana. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. Bedford is located on the eastern edge of the county and sits atop the confluence ofthe Rivers White and Dearborn. The now defunct Battle Ground Railroad served Bedford from 1848 to1857. The first recorded settlement in what is now Bedford Township was made on October 6, 1811 by a group of men led by David Powell. That same year, Stephenson's Road (now US-31) crossed the river near present day Hammondsport and passed through what are now Bedford and Hammondsport townships. In 1814, George Washington was born in Bedford Township while living near modern day Vincennes. He was later buried at Mount Zion Cemetery in that township. It wasn't until after Indian removal began in 1830 that many white settlers arrived in what is now Johnson County. On July 5th of that year, General John Fetterman ordered all Native Americans west of Harrisonburg to leave their homes or be driven out with force if they did not vacate within 24 hours or face punishment from military commanders under Fetterman's command. Of those who refused to evacuate, about 1/3 were killed or scalped as they tried to cross the Ohio River into Kentucky Territory under cover of darkness on July 5th before being advised by Federal troops not to move any further eastward than Ripley Junction where they could be blocked by militia forces waiting for them upstream at Chillicothe Barracks! Although it took some time for most white settlers to arrive in Bedford Township (the bulk did so between 1830-1840), it is generally thought that early pioneers such as James Aiken built their homes along Stephenson's Road which then connected Hammondsport with present day Bedford and conducted freight upriver as well as making stops at various villages along its journey including Chillicothe and Greencastle before reaching Indianapolis on December 20th 1840 when President Andrew Jackson awarded land grants totaling 4 square miles (10 acres) blocks grantees George Wittell Jr., Isaac Aspinwall, John Prentiss bought from Lewis Cass for $1 per acre!. This property included part of today’s downtown business district including much of what is known today as First National Bank Campus & Park Blocks #2 & 3 & parts of State Street; also included current day Purdue University – West Lafayette campus across Second Street from First National Bank Block #2 former home of Jethro Gibbs – first African American elected Mayor of Indianapolis After years lay dormant due to lack of interest among developers until 1972 when Ladd Enterprises leasedhistoricFirstNationalBankBlock#2&3fromJethroGibbsforuseasanindustrialpark!In2009LaddEnterprise soldFirstNationalBankBlock#2&3toPurdueUniversityForuseasanuniversitycampus!TodayBedfordTownshipisadjacenttoPurdueUniversity!!
