Saint-Bertrand's remains are interred at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bedford. In 1814, while traders were exploring the area near Fort Wayne, they discovered coal deposits on Red River Valley land that would become known as Bedford County. The first mine opened in 1820 and produced over $10 million worth of coal during its heyday; it closed around 1850 due to competition from other mines and other economic factors throughout Indiana and Michigan. In 1865, John Foard moved his family from Terre Haute to Bedford when he became governor of Indiana Territory; they started a small grocery store there which continued until 1893 when it merged with the nearby Wahlgrens grocery store chain to form what is today Wahlgrens & Co., one of the largest food stores in central Indiana. In 1889 another store branch was opened by brothers Julius and Wilhelm Mueller on South Washington Street in downtown Bedford; this store became known as "Mueller's Music Hall" because its floor space served as a music hall where local bands played for customers before performances at local churches or Masonic lodges across town The village site became home to many small businesses over time including a Barber Shop, bakery/diner, carpenter shop/workshop/lumberyard/, druggist/pharmacist/, hotel/motel/, restaurant (later changed name to Bedrock Pizza), blacksmith shop/, gas station (later renamed Speedway), post office ( later changed name to Old Post Office), schoolhouse (now called Friendship Village Elementary School) and several homes built by residents such as Mrs.] Rinehart]], Mr.] Smith], Mrs.[Gus] Knoppers]], Mr.] Howell[/b][i][j]]

Therefore, when Indianapolis formally became a city on July 5th, 1871 (just four years after being created as part of downtown Indianapolis), municipal boundaries shifted somewhat largely due to population growth within cities themselves- In this case Queen's Park (now known as Union Station) lay just northwest of present day Broadway/Southgate Avenue while Southside/Dearborn Street lay immediately south across White River from where today's Meridian Row stands sandwiched between Easttowne Shopping Center to the west and US 41 to the east). It wasn't until 1907 that Bedford County proper came into existence as a separate entity - then under jurisdiction not just over Indianola but also over much larger portions including parts Of Lafayette (later West Lafayette), Evansville (later East Evansville), Elkhart (later North Elkhart), Goodrich (later South Goodrich), Wabash Falls (later Crawfordsville) and more! Despite this recent addition however; many aspects still resembled those shared by either Indianola or adjacent areas - such as churches dating back to pre-Civil War days being situated close together along main thoroughfares like State Road 1A & 1B or even older homes occupying similar locations along both sides of major streets! Just like today’s residents we take pride in our village’s rich heritage!!!
