The Avon firearms company was founded in 1892 by George W. Worth and John A. Armstrong. The company produced a wide variety of rifles, shotguns, pistols and ammunition. In 1905, the company purchased Triton Arms Company, which produced Thompson submachine guns and machineguns. Avon, Indiana is a city in central Indiana. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brown County. The first settler in what is now Avon was John Heckel and his family in 1824. By 1830, there were twelve families living in the town. In 1836, avon had a post office, three churches and twenty-one stores. In 1853, avon became an independent city when it split from Greenville Township. In 1862, during the American Civil War, General Edward Halleck ordered all goods not included in army supplies to be burned at Avon's sawmill because it refused to join the Union side. This event helped start the growth of Avon as a business and industrial center for southern Indiana.
