Auburn, Indiana is a small town in St. Joseph County,Indiana. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Auburn was founded in 1827 by Methodist missionaries under the name of "Henderson". The town was named after John C. Henderson, an early settler and apostle of the Methodist Church who died in 1829 while on a missionary journey to India. The first post office was established in Auburn in 1830.
