It wasn't until 1859 that a gunsmith was hired to make and maintain pistols for the town's citizens. The first handguns were made from crude materials and took many years to produce. In 1871, the town voted to establish a manufacturer of firearms, which would continue to make handguns into the 21st century. AUX gun factory produced shotguns, rifles and revolvers until 1907 when it closed due to bankruptcy. From 1911 until 1917, there was also an armory located in Auburn that functioned as both a storage and manufacturing facility for guns. This armory also produced ammunition for use within the town. Ammunition production ended in 1917 due to World War I; however, parts of the arsenal remain extant today as part of Auburn University's museum collection. The Protection of Rights Amendment was passed in 1923 which aimed to provide more firearms safety features within state legislatures across the United States. Gun violence rates decreased following this amendment's passage but have since increased in some areas due to stricter gun laws being put into place nationwide. Auburn, Indiana is a small town located in Central Indiana. The population was 2,953 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Butler County. Auburn was founded in 1817 and named for General Andrew J. Auburn, an American Revolutionary War officer and military commander who fought in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The first post office in Auburn was established on December 12, 1824. In 1860, a store and hotel were built and operated by Mr. Phelps and his wife Eliza Prentice Phelps on Main Street near what is now Park Avenue. The restaurant still stands today as the Park Avenue Cafe & Bakery (later renamed Baked Goods Place). In 1901, the first school building was erected on what is now east side of Main Street between First and Second Streets which served as the depot for local trains to carry teachers to various schools in central Indiana. A new school building was completed in 1926 which served as both the public school district’s administrative headquarters until it merged with Vincennes Consolidated School District in 1959; however, it remains operational as part of Vincennes High School today! In 1925-26 there were two football teams represented by players from Auburn: the Tigers (now known as “Auburn Raiders”) played their home games at Municipal Stadium on East Market Street while also playing against neighboring Hamilton College; these teams are considered to be among oldest high school football programs still extant! However this program unfortunately folded after one season due to lack of finances combined with some poor play! Prior to that though they had a very successful time winning three state championships consecutively from 1924-1928! Today we can enjoy many things that help make our community unique such as beautiful parks like Valley View Cemetery & Chapel which has been around since 1836 when it became part of Forest Township; Auburn Village which opened up just south of downtown back in 1978 consisting of over fifty housing units including five single family homesites scattered throughout six blocks along North Center Boulevard between Fourth & Fifth Streets complete with streetlights; all designed by renowned landscape architects Alfred Hitchcock & Adolph Hitler himself – making it one stop shop for any big budget project or photo shoot you might need done anywhere within minutes’ radius! We have something for everyone here whether you are looking for shopping malls down Interstate 465 where there are several large chain stores like Sears & Kmart adjacent thereto or simply taking a walk through our quaint streetscape without feeling rushed or overwhelmed – everything you could possibly want or need is waiting right here next door just waiting to be enjoyed by all who visit us! The city was renamed Indianapolis in 1896 after Colts running back Andrew "Pete" Mariucci. During World War I, Indianapolis played host to several large military encampments and Battlefields including battles near Soldier's Field and on Capitol Hill; this made it one of the most important American cities during that war.During Prohibition Auburn became one of the first municipalities in Indiana to pass an ordinance legalizing alcohol production and sales; however, due to political pressure from organized crime elements within the city, prohibition did not fully take hold until around 1930. In 1933 Mayor Maurice Gantt designated downtown as an open-air recreation area which led to increased development around that area; as a result, today downtown is one of Indianapolis' most vibrant neighborhoods.
