Dear Friends and Family of the Anderson Fire Department, It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of our beloved Chief James W. "Jim" Ladd at the age of 85. Jim was a long time member and captain of the Anderson FD and always put his colleagues first. He was an excellent leader and spent many years working to make our department better. Jim will be deeply missed. Many years ago, AndersonFD had two types of lights: red and green polka dots on poles in each corner of the firehouse (later replaced by blue). The red light acted as a Battalion Warning signal while the green light served as an emergency call for firefighters to respond to any sort of problem or emergency. When one type stopped working or became outdated, another type would be installed which included a flashing Amber Alert beacon (currently being replaced by LED strobe lights). At some point in time, it was decided that all new stations should have Gun Light Beacon technology so that we could quickly and easily identify any suspect who may try to steal our firearms or other property. Unfortunately, this decision backfired due to budgetary constraints; very few stations actually received Gun Light Beacons! Since then, we have continued to use blue LEDs instead because they look more like headlights oncoming from behind than anything else. We are also using them as part of our public information campaign when needed in order to warn people about potential crime around town or during special events such as parade days or festivals. When I joined theAndersonFD in 1987 there were only six Assault Weapons Permitted Permit Holders in town- four men and two women! To date, we have confiscated over 50 assault weapons across several agencies within Anderson County alone... not including those seized at gun shows! It really takes a village (or even just one department) when it comes to fighting crime! I guess you could say that Guns Are Not Our Problem anymore... since Jim's retirement! Lol

Anderson is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana that is located on the eastern edge of Lake Michigan. The population was 1,562 at the 2010 census, making it one of the smallest towns in Indiana. Anderson is named after General Andrew Jackson who fought in the Mexican-American War and was president when Anderson became a county seat in 1836. The first people to live in what is now Anderson were farmers who grew corn, wheat, and other crops. In 1837, Anderson became a town when it was chosen as the county seat for Posey County by vote of its residents. The first post office was established in Anderson on December 8th, 1837. In 1861, due to Indian hostilities and an American force's engagement at Fort Harrison near present day Warsaw Township (now part of Gary), both Posey and Stonington Counties were dissolved intoAnderson County; however, Posey remained designated as their county seat until consolidation with Jennings County in 1912. In 1850s and 1860s there were many religious denominations living in Anderson: Methodists from nearby Stonington; Presbyterians from nearby Warsaw Township; Baptists from neighboring Newabbey Township; Congregationalists from Lebanon township; Lutherans from Waterloo village (); Episcopalians from nearby Pleasant Prairie ; Methodist Episcopal Zionites (MEMS) also lived here for a time before moving to larger communities such as Terre Haute or Muncie When Lake Michigan levels off at itsnatural level during high water years only about 10% of areas along its shoreline are exposed because sandbars keep most water out while waves reach up to high tide creating beach communities like Steubenville Beach where they suddenly drop off again within minutes joining open water again just offshore Only about 2% of land along the lake's shoreline remains unvegetated swamp which supports over 150 species including several important bird populations In 1916 local developer Averill Harriman donated money towards building a dam on then unnamed River Bend immediately north of present day downtown Anderson which would create what is now known as Harriman Park The dam formed today's Arlington Heights reservoir which impounds much of this area giving rise to numerous recreational activities such as fishing, boating, swimming and hiking among others

The town was named after George Anderson, an early settler. In 1840, Anderson County was organized from part of Posey County and Anderson became its capital. The county seat moved to Terre Haute in 1907.

In 1907, when Indianapolis became an incorporated town, Anderson took over as its municipal government and continued to serve as its county seat until 1984 when it was moved to nearby Terre Haute. Anderson has been serving as its current municipal government since then.
