Anderson, Indiana is a city in central Indiana and the county seat of Butler County. The population was 12,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis–Cincinnati–Daytona, IN-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that became Anderson was settled by Europeans in 1824 as an open prairie with small trees and scrub brush. A post office called "Anderson" was established in 1827, and growth continued until the coming of the railroad in 1830. The town developed around a cotton gin and gristmill operated by John Anderson Sr. and his son John Jr. In 1835, a schoolhouse and jail were built, followed by a hotel in 1840. The first store opened in 1840 on Main Street near today's corner of State Streets. By 1850, businesses had expanded to include three churches: First Methodist on North Broadway near High School; Second Methodist on South Railroad Avenue east of Clinton Road; and Presbyterian on East Broadway north of High School which later became home to University Park Baptist Church (now known as First Presbyterian). By 1860, Anderson had grown to 1,500 residents before declining during the American Civil War due to textile productionearing out mills closed or moving away from central Indiana while soldiers fought abroad.. However, following reunification of America following World War II Anderson increased its population rapidly with new development limited only to downtown where current Bancor Center now stands

Anderson, Indiana was first settled in 1827 by a group of Methodist missionaries. The town was named for the then-young General James Anderson, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and won notoriety as a cavalry general. In 1839, Anderson's son, Jesse A. Anderson, became the first white settler in what is now Evansville when he moved from Logansport to this small farming community on the IU campus. By 1850, the population of Anderson had reached 1,500 and it rapidly grew due to its strategic location at the junction of two major road corridors. In 1861, after Confederate forces invaded Indiana and burned down many bridges within minutes of taking control of Indianapolis, Union troops destroyed all but one bridge over Great Miami River near present day Terre Haute. This action helped spur new development in central Indiana and led to today's downtown Evansville – home to several banks (one of which still stands), restaurants and nightlife options as well as several colleges and universities. The growth of Evansville has also contributed significantly to Anderson's nickname "TheTownOfTheFuture." One significant event that occurred duringAnderson's early years followed the death of President James Kahl in 1865. That year saw an influx of immigrants from Germany who wanted to purchase land in what is now Evansville due to cheap farmland prices. To capitalize on this growing population boom, local businessmen erected businesses such as grocery stores (the first such store was opened by David Heiman), hotels (the Main Street Hotel became one of the most popular tourist destinations) and lumberyards along State Road 12A – soon christened "TheStreetOfThe Future." Additionally,Anderson established itself as a center for agricultural production with large fields being leased out for potatoes or corn purposes; these days you can still find evidence of early planting efforts throughout town. In 1867/68 there was another important event when three young men – Hosea Mott (age 17), Israel Ziegler (age 15) and George Stephenson – started a construction company called Stephenson & Company which would later become known as Robertson Construction Company; their work helped create Oneida County Courthouse which still stands today!
Anderson, Indiana was founded in 1824 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The town was named after General James K. Anderson, who led the expedition. The town grew rapidly because of its location on a trading route between the East and West Coasts of America. In 1851, Anderson became a county seat of Butler County.
