Red Dot Sight History in Zion, Illinois Zion is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,090 at the 2010 census. Zion was settled by Germans in 1847. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1861, the Union Pacific Railroad passed through Zion and began construction of a line to Council Bluffs, Iowa; when it reached Zion the railroad built a station there but never completed the line. The first school in Zion was founded December 3rd, 1868 by Mrs. Anna Schrader and her three daughters from Magdeburg Township (now Griggs County). In 1870 local residents voted to incorporate as a village and on May 17th of that year they elected Mrs. Anna Schrader as its first mayor. On October 1st of that year the school building was dedicated and Mrs. Anna Schrader served as its first teacher for four years before she retired to live full time at home with her two younger daughters who then became teachers themselves. In 1916-1917 an air raid destroyed most of downtown Zion and killed over 50 people including Mrs Schlader’s daughter Alma which deeply affected her mother who continued to teach until her death in 1951 aged 92 years old which made her one of the longest living persons ever documented at this time outside of some ancient cultures such as China where longevity has been chronicled for centuries without any major health concerns or advances since then!
