The York family continued to live there until their death in 1916. The first store in Yorkville opened on Main Street on October 25, 1838. In 1840, the family built a larger store on Third Street. The following year saw the opening of what would become one of Yorkville's most important features: a post office with its own wagon road from Warsaw to Rome (then called North Cairo), which allowed residents to send mail directly to friends and family across the state without having to leave their homes. In 1850–51, construction began on a schoolhouse which became one of the town's most popular attractions for visitors. A second store opened in 1861 and soon after another Post Office followed suit; both stores were operated by Mrs. Denton until 1865 when MrSale Conte took over operation as well as marketing and sales activities for both stores- creating an almost complete monopoly for her husband’s businesses during this time period). By 1870, only two other businesses survived from when Yorkville had six operating businesses: A general store run by Capt Sheppard (which closed around 1890) and Mrs Cramer’s bakery which closed around 1915; all but one of these businesses were either combined into one business or closed completely due to lack of customers or competition from other towns within Kane County or outside it during this time frame……………………………………………………………. During World War I, many people left Yorkvilie due to wartime obligations such as working in factories or being drafted into military service; however some people did stay until they died or moved away……………………………………….. In 1919–1920 local farmers formed a cooperative effort known as "The Great Northern Famine Relief Committee" (GNFRC) through cooperation among farmers throughout Kane County includingrewith three different nuclei: each nucleus consisted of 20–30 families who pooled resources together with no explicit goal other than helping others during those difficult times………………………………………. From 1925 until his death in 1931 Anthony Jettison led GNFRC despite having no experience managing committees such as GNFRC………………………………………..
