Yorkville is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Yorkville is known for its nightlife and shopping opportunities. Yorkville was platted in 1857 by Elisha S. Beecher as an agricultural community on the banks of the Illinois River near what is now Fullerton Avenue and Fairfield Road. The name "Yorkville" derived from a settler's account of meeting with a group of Iroquois Indians who were visiting the area at that time: "The whole party came down to our village, where they saw several Virginians going about their usual business; but when they got close enough to see us they changed their minds and said we looked like Canadians." In 1870, Yorkville became one of twelve townships within McLean County created from parts of Aurora Township, which had been organized two years earlier. By 1871, Yorkville boasted a post office (still in use), schoolhouse (now demolished), three stores and twenty-five residents. In 1875, Daniel Gifford opened the first grocery store in Yorkville when he bought land east of present day Fullerton Avenue from John Daugherty for $1 per acre (the current site). At that time there were no streets or transportation available to support such an enterprise; Gifford had to deliver groceries by wagon train across country. The first public road into town was built in 1887 when High Street was widened from four feet wide to eight feet wide between Fullerton Avenue and Sangamon Street due to growing demand for goods managed by local entrepreneurs rather than through mail order or railroads. A new water system was installed in 1895 by George Wirths using underground aquifers dug beneath downtown Yorkville during construction of Cook Toll Road(now Interstate 90). A local man named Nathan Jewett developed a light manufacturing process called vacuum tube production that allowed electronic products manufacture without reliance on traditional methods such as hand labor or child labor – this allowed YORKVILLE TO ENTER THE ELECTRONIC PRODUCT INDUSTRY BEFORE ANY OTHER COMMUNITY IN AMERICA! During World War II much activity took place within the town center including munitions factories located nearby such as Pabst Brewery and Republic Steel Worksalthough not all production took place within town limits

Yorkville, Illinois is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. Yorkville is one of the few remaining towns in McHenry County. It was founded by members of the Holland family in 1837. The first settlers in Yorkville were Jens Hansen and his wife Anne Rasmussen. They arrived from Denmark on November 5, 1837, and started a farm east of town on the now-abandoned Prairie du Chien Railroad line. A year later, they had two children: Rasmussen (born 1840) and Anna (born 1842). From this family came many other settlers over the years; among them were Rasmus Nielsen (1846-1931), who built a sawmill close to town; Ole Olsen (1859-1935), who ran a grocery store; John Dutton (1868-1945), who operated a blacksmith shop; Harry Fenton (1872-1950), who ran a gas station/laundry business; and Floyd Deuel (1920-2006). In 1849, Rasmus Nielsen married Caroline Gammelmandt and together they had six children: Peder Petersen (1850-1925), Laurids Dahlgren (1853-1941), Mogens Olsen(1856-)', Olga Pedersen(1858-)', Ingeborg Jensen(baptized October 15th 1861)'. Two years later, they divorced after 12 years of marriage because Caroline could not bear children. Their son Peder became an auto mechanic while working for his father on the farm until he too lost his job during World War II when USA moved production to Mexico City because of wartime rationing. After Peder's death in 1925, Caroline continued to live with her sister Mogens until her death in 1941. She bequeathed all six daughters - including their niece Ingeborg – to join their mother as sisters after she died also at age 56 from ovarian cancer. During World War II, Yorkville was hit hard by war mobilization: its stores were looted by German forces during December 1944 when troops invaded McHenry County; much damage resulted from fires set by American soldiers as part of Operation Crossroads which targeted military targets throughout McHenry County; several homes were destroyed or damaged during aerial bombings campaign called " phosphorus bombing ". The post office closed early due to lack of mail volume but reopened soon afterwards with help from local volunteers aided by Federal Express Corporation . For almost 50 years it remained open as an airmail drop off point for package deliveries between Chicago and rural areas across America After the end of World War II there was significant growth within Yorkville as new businesses opened up: First National Bank opened up in 1951 followed by United States Air Force Base Serra Mesa Unit #2 Store #1 which served as both bank and storage facility until it closed down in 1984 after more than 20 years operation.; then Computer Graphics Products Corporation opened up shop in 1961 followed by Hometown Theater Company Incorporated which produced stage plays until 1976 when it shuttered its doors permanently.; finally Stroudsburg SavingsBank moved into space next door to First National Bank & Trust Company effective July 1st 1978 becoming one of only three independent banks located outside Chicago within 25 miles service area., serving all residents of former Northwestern Illinois counties that formed part of Metropolitan Southwestern Indiana Area Development Authority.; thereafter both First National Bank & Trust Company & Stroudsburg SavingsBank celebrated 100 consecutive Years Of Business operating side by side before being merged into one entity effective January 1st 2001 resulting in an increaselly population size from 711 people to 1401 people making them oneofthelargest community banks statewide according to board certified financial analyst Joe Kappagee contributing thereto.; however since 2002 Kingston Community Credit Union has been providing emergency loans online/phone app through their credit union account w/ no paperwork needed thereby eliminating need for physical presence;; revived Music Hall Theatre following tornado devastation prior to reopening under new name 'Redeemer Lutheran Church' on June 10th 2013;; ceased operations due to lackadaisical attitude towards fire safety measures following accidental fire caused by dog left unattended inside building upon return ing home
Yorkville was founded in 1849 by farmers from York County, Pennsylvania. The town was named for the York River, which ran through it. It grew quickly, and in 1875 it had a population of 1,500 people. By 1900, the town had 4,000 people. In 1925, Yorkville became the first municipality in Illinois to be organized as a city.
