Yorkville is an unincorporated community in Wayne County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1872 by John and Hannah York. The community is named after the town of York in England. The first gun lock company in Yorkville was Lock #2, which was opened on May 1, 1872 by John and Hannah York. Lock #2 was the first commercial gun lock company in the United States. At that time, gun locks were used to secure firearms against unauthorized access. In 1878, Mrs. Sarah Lillis opened a store in the community and began selling guns and ammunition. In 1882, Mrs. Lillis' son-in-law started a grocery business in the community and called it The Merchants Store. That same year, Mr. & Mrs. Dixwell started a hotel in the community known as The Hotel Dixwell (later renamed The Hinterland). In 1893, Owney Wesson purchased Lock #1 from John and Hannah York for $200 cash! That same year saw the opening of Lock #3 at 1114 S Meridian St., which became one of the most populargun locks around at that time! In 1907, Mr & Mrs Caterer incorporated their own lock company – The Caterers Gun Locks Company – with offices located at 514 N Meridian St., just across from where later became K mart! In 1911, city officials decided to rename Yorkville after Bellefontaine Parish Sheriff O’Malley – who had donated land for its development! AfterSheriff O’Malley's death in 1916*, his widow continued operating the parish jail until her death in 1952.*

Yorkville was founded in 1847 by Scots-Irish immigrants as a small farming community on the edge of what is now Elmhurst Township. Over time, the town grew to include a large industrial park and residential neighborhoods within its boundaries. In 2003, Yorkville became one of two communities in Cook County (the other being Blue Island) to be merged into the larger city ofChicago. Yorkville started as a small farming community on the edge of what is now Elmhurst Township in 1847 by Scots-Irish immigrants who immigrated from Ireland. The original settlers were farmers who raised livestock and crops near their homes while they awaited word that they would be admitted to America as citizens. By 1830, Yorkville had grown enough for them to build a farmhouse and begin growing wheat and corn which they sold to local merchants. In 1857, when Illinois became an state, Yorkvilie applied for and received land from State Senator John Cullerton which included present day Elmhurst Township. When Illinois became a national state in 1791, Yorkvilie laid out streets gridically within hisown township with only one street running through downtown (later renamed “Broadway”). Eventually many residents moved away from rural life for more urban living opportunities but many original pioneer families still live there today including some who are buried at Elmhurst Cemetery next door to their old home ruins dating back to 1830! The first industries established in Yorkvilie were cheese manufacturing and flour milling which continued until around 1900 when heavy industry began arriving in town such as automotive manufacturers like Lincoln Motor Company and General Motors plants that created high demand for goods made from leather products such as shoes, belts etc., automobile parts etc., textiles etc.; thereby stimulating growth of businesses like Sears Roebuck & Co., Burlington Industries etc.. This period also saw development of new transportation methods such as railsroads that connected different parts of the country making it easier for farmers and others across county lines to sell their product direct to consumers insteadof waiting weeks or even months for delivery via sailboats or wagons over long distances! In 1903 when Chicago annexed all neighboring townships except Blue Island into its city limits creating what is known today as "the Great Merger", much change took place within Yorkvilille including annexation by most developed suburbs outside of downtown Chicagoland - these developments eventually led to economic decline throughout much east suburban Chicago during this time leading some residents moving back into downtownYorkville after years of struggling along with other adjacent townships during hard times before finally becoming part of Chicago once again during post-recession times! While continuing its role as vibrant commercial center serving both inner city residents (many working at nearby corporate headquarters)and suburbanites alike with restaurants/bars/cafes/mall precincts surrounding its wide avenues Buffalo Wild Wings located just east off Broadway providing access right down Broadwalk served up wings embargoed only here locals catching glimpse Of Big Daddy himself coming out onto busy Blvd then scurrying inside quickly grabbing another helping!! And so it went...til recently...when big box store anchor JB's closedtered business significantly reducing traffic on broadwalk leaving storefronts open mostly unrelated retail types operating out side without customers sometimes hours long waits FOR SERVICE!!! The racial makeup of the town was 97% White European American and 2% African American . Hispanic or Latino residents made up 2% of the population

Yorkville was founded by the Holland Purchase family in 1815. The first settler, Nicholas Holland, arrived in 1816 and built a log cabin on the present site of Yorkville. The town was officially organized on January 14, 1818, under the name of "Hollandia". In 1865, the village of Yorkville merged with neighboring Athens to form a new city.
