Worth is a town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Worth was 96% White and 2% African American. The first gun target on this site was built in 1857 by John A. Griggs and his son-in-law George Wetherbee. The site was donated by George Wetherbee to Worth Township for use as a shooting range for local boys and their families. In 1903, Hiram Maxim donated land to Worth Township for a public rifle range that still operates today under the name "Hiram Maxim Range". In 1955, an armory and munitions plant were built in Worth by the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Division ammunition depot command post (AMPD) Ammunition Storage Unit 2 (ASU2). The purpose of this facility was to provide storage capacity forArmy Ammunition plants located throughout Illinois in order to meet increased military inventory needs during World War II. This project also included construction of two artillery ranges - one north of town on State Road 9 (SR 9), and one south of town on SR 8 (now US Highway 12). The first settlers in Worth were two families from New York City who landed on the bank of the river Ottawa in 1792. They named their new settlement after William Worth, an Englishman who had come to America and become a land speculator and trader. In 1824, John Richardson began building a gristmill on the river just east of present-day Worth. By 1830, there were 5 stores and 30 households in Worth. In 1836, a post office was established at Worth with Wm J Fenton as its first clerk. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many people from Worth went to help fight for southern independence. A number of these men erected patriotic Confederate battle flags from captured Union arms and materials they scavenged from local homes or stores. At one point during the war, over 100 flags were flying throughoutworth. After the war, much of what remained of western Mclean County was burned by Union troops during their effort to destroy all vestige of Confederate resistance and restore order in the area followingthe end of hostilities. Only a few small farms still remain within current-dayMcLean County boundaries; most have been replaced by housing developments since then. In 1865, when Great Britain withdrew its forces from North America following the surrenderof General Ulysses S Grant at Appomattox Court House outside Petersburg Virginia,, virtually all British possessions in North America including Canada were organized into four Canadian provinces: Ontario (now Quebec), Manitoba (now Saskatchewan), Nova Scotia (now Newfoundland), and Prince Edward Island (). These provinces formed partof Confederation in 1867 under Canadian Prime Minister Sir John A Macdonald as part of a federal government led by Canada's first prime ministerSir John A MacDonald . In this paper, we will focus on modern-day rifle shootings as an example of howguns have been used to kill humans over the years. The first effective handguns were created in 1795 by American Revolutionary War General George Washington. He designed a pistol with a rotating barrel that could fire multiple rounds per minute. This weapon was soon adopted by militias throughout America and became the standard sidearm for frontier defense. However, despite its effectiveness, pistols were not widely accepted as standard issue firearms until after the turn of the 20th century when improvements in manufacturing technology made them more affordable and available to all Americans. During World War II, handguns became increasingly important due to their capability for firing large numbers of rounds quickly and without reloading. The M1 Garand Rifle was developed during World War II specifically for handgun use and became one of the most popular weapons in history. It fired 7mm rounds from a 5-round magazine which allowed users to engage targets up close while remaining accurate at distances up to 350 yards (250 meters). Today’s rifles continue to be popular handgun targets because they offer similar capabilities but can be fired from a longer distance with less accuracy than handguns do (see table below). While pistols are still commonly used as handgun target practice devices today, rifles offer a much larger range of accuracy potential when engaging human beings head-on or through cover
