The name "Worth" was taken from General James Hull's estate south of Warsaw, Illinois; Hull had transferred his estate to Methodist preacher John Worthen in 1838. On December 15, 1874, Worth became a city after being granted incorporation by an act of the Illinois General Assembly. The first mayor of Worth was Fenton Richards and later Hargrave Boardman served as mayor until his death in office on January 24, 1912. The original downtown core is now home to two large banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., which merged with Wells Fargo Bank) and several other large businesses including Allstate Insurance Company (now GEICO), Toyota Motor Manufacturing USA Inc., PNC Financial Services Group LLC, First National Bank and Sears Holdings Corporation among others. There are also many small businesses scattered throughout the downtown core that have grown over time such as restaurants (including Wawa), convenience stores (CVS Pharmacy and Dunkin' Donuts), offices/fields/markets (Kroger supermarkets), art galleries (Anchor Bay Fine Arts Center) and even a pet store! The cost for living varies depending on where you live but generally costs less than most major cities in America due to lower transportation fares combined with lower housing prices within walking distance of almost all errands required for everyday life such as grocery shopping or taking care of children!

Worth is a small town in Union County, Illinois, United States. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first white person to settle in Worth was Nathan Bedford Wright, who came to the area in 1853 from Alabama. Wright built a cabin on the east side of town and named it "Worth". He also started a sawmill and gristmill there, which still stands today. In 1865, Worth suspended its own government and joined the Normal School District #2. The Normal School District #2 merged with the Chicago School District in 1933 to form the Chicago Public Schools system. In 1911, Worth established its own fire department; this was unusual at that time because all towns in Union County were required by law to have one. worthFire Department located across town from Post Officegender on Saginaw Rd which served as their Headquarters until it burned down in 1965 after many years of neglect by then Mayor Everett Norris Price In 1962, local citizens donated land for what is now Waukegan Park - an open space that includes a skating rink, baseball diamond and playground. The park has since been renamed Lake Washington Park in honor of another community donation made during that same year- Waukegan's contribution being $500 for parkland and architecture design work associated with its creation
