As Main Street passed through these churches there were horse-drawn wagons used for transportation between services or goods being brought into or coming out of these churches so people could get their goods before they went to church. A post office was established at Woodstock on October 15th, 1836 by Amos Richardson with two initial mailings: "To All those Who may feel Interested In Making Applications For The Office Of Postmaster Be It hereby notified that I am prepared To Conduct Correspondence Under My own Command And That No Person will Be Burdened With Expenses If They arc not So intended". A store opened at what is now Community Hall on February 5th 1840 by Wm Hodge with three initial shipments: "To All who are desirous To Purchase Goods At Our Store We desire expressly To remind You That we are open Monday thru Friday 10amto 4pm & Saturday 10amto 2pm Till we close our doors for Good" A post office closed down due to lack of customers on November 30th 1849 but reopening on December 1st with only seven initial mailings: "Forclosed Office reopened January 3rd 1850 Wit Seven Mailing Only Our hope you have been well since our last Delivery We regret very much That We Are Not able to Serve You Any More" This indicates that only seven people actually subscribed to receive messages from the post office during its closure

On July 1, 1847, the town of Woodstock was organized in Kane County. The population of the town was only seventy-two people when it was founded, but by 1860 it had grown to nearly one thousand. In 1870, the first post office was established in Woodstock. By 1880, the town had a sawmill and a grist mill. As well, there were two hotels and several stores. In 1896, Stoneleigh lumberyard was opened in Woodstock. By 1925, the population of Woodstock had decreased to just fifty-six people; however, during that decade the sawmill closed and many businesses closed including a grocery store and a blacksmith shop. In 1945, an air raid destroyed most of the town’s buildings leaving only about fifteen residents remaining. However, over time many new businesses have opened up including a pizzeria and then an auto body shop before finally becoming an arts center in 2006 with mixed use space for art galleries as well as apartments for workers who do not have cars or transportation available outside their work hours
