Woodridge is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village was founded by farmers in 1837 as a small farmstead on the now-demolished Parsonage Road near present day Woodridge High School and Woodridge Landing Resort. In 1847, James Kapp purchased the land comprising what is now Woodridge from John Smeaton for $1,000. Kapp raised corn and wheat for his family until he built a sawmill on the stream that flows through town in 1854. A post office called Kappville was established in 1865, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. From 1870 to 1880, George Wickersham operated a flour mill east of town near present day University Park Place; this mill produced about one million bushels of flour per year for local markets. The first store opened here on May 5, 1881 when Jno Hagedorn opened the first general store west of Chicago with 135 barrels of oilseed oil and 16 cases of flour; this store continued to operate until 1907 when it burned down due to an overflowing bin during a storm. In 1902–03 Elisha Deming opened the first grocery store west of Chicago inside what is now Sears Tower (now Willis Tower). This led to other businesses opening up including two breweries (Lodge Brewing Company and Oneida Brewing Company) between 1903-1906 as well as lumberyards (Walsh Lumber Company) between 1906-1920; these businesses lasted until they were shuttered due to wartime production restrictions which made available only timber from managed forests not used for building purposes. In 1925–26 Dr Vincenzo Rossi owned & operated a pharmacy here which became known as "Rossi Pharmacy" before being acquired by CVSPharmacy USA Incorporated in 1997 after CVS merged withpharmaceutical giantrx Limited aka Walgreens Boots Alliance plc.; at this time "Rossi Pharmacy" resumed its original name but vacated/demolished all its buildings except one on State Street which remains active as an art gallery today although mothballed since 2007 due to lack Of space following merger with larger rivalrx Limited aka Walgreens pharmacies Incorporated). After Walgreens boughtrx Limited aka Walgreens pharmacies Incorporated) Rossi Pharmacy reopened under new ownership & management but closed again in 2009 after multiple successful expansions across several states including Ohio where it reopened under new management before relocating back home permanently to Michigan where it remains today headquartered (& operates 3 stores there too)).
