Woodridge is a small town in the far northwestern corner of Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria–Moline–Rock Island, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Woodridge goes back to 1836 when surveyors named it Cedar Grove. The name changed to Woodridge in 1847 and has been unchanged since then. At that time, there were just over 100 residents in the town and it was located on an unincorporated area now known as Park View Drive. In 1870, the first post office was established in Woodridge and mail service continued until 1907. In 1908, a school was built in what is now Center Square and two years later, a library opened as well. The growth of the town continued with purchases of land from farmers and developers throughout the 1910s and 1920s. This led to construction of homes on both sides of Park View Drive – one for each family who purchased land (a practice still followed today). During World War II, many local businesses became involved with production or distribution of materials for military use including munitions plants and shipyards. Many residents also served in military units during wartime; some even went off to fight overseas while their families stayed behind to provide support! After World War II ended, many people returned home and started businesses such as grocery stores or banks which quickly grew into major players in the community by 1960. By 1970, Woodridge had reached its current size with 1,812 residents! Today, Woodbridge’s economy revolves around its agricultural sector which employs more than 200 people within three main farms: Maryvale Farms (soybeans), Pioneer Valley (corn), and Midway Gardens (vegetables). Some other economic sectors include natural gas exploration near Main Street; retail store manufacturing across several buildings next door including those used for furniture assembly; outpatient services such as vision care/ exams/treatment; professional sports teams playing at nearby stadiums; etc.; all within close proximity to one another making it easy for residents to connect with one another!

Woodridge, Illinois was once a small town that was located in the northwest corner of Cook County. The community was founded in 1892 and had a population of only 700 residents. Woodridge experienced significant growth during the 1920s and 1930s, when it became one of the most sizeable towns in Cook County. By 1950, however, Woodridge had shrunk to its current size due to the increasing popularity of nearby Chicago. The town experienced another decline during the 1970s and 1980s as economic conditions in Cook County deteriorated. Today, Woodridge is an isolated rural community with a population of only 507 residents. The community has undergone several name changes over its history, including “Walden” before it settled on its present name in 1892. The first inhabitants of what is now Woodbridge were Native Americans who lived there for centuries before moving westward into what is now suburban Chicago. In 1852, Captain George Stephenson discovered gold near modern-day Decatur and decided to establish a settlement there on behalf of his company, Central City Minesurance Company. A group of men from Illinois arrived at Stephenson’s location in November 1852 under the leadership of Major James Cushing and began construction on a log cabin which they named Walden after their original home state – New York. The first permanent settler at Walden was John Hickey who arrived with his family in December 1852. By 1860, there were about 20 families living at Walden; by 1870, there were 100+. On July 1st, 1870*, the village limits were changed from “Walden” to “Woodridge” effective upon incorporation as a village by Act No. 919* (1870-90). At this time† all male residents between 21 and 60 years old must have moved into one or more whiteouses* within two years preceding annexation (i.e., property lines could not be changed until after incorporation).
