The town was founded in 1871 by John Aiken and others as a Loyalist outpost on the east side of Chicago from which they could watch over their loyalist colony in DuPage County. In 1955, when Illinois abolished slavery, most ofDuPage County became part of Cook County that year. As a result, much of what is now Woodridge grew up around those former slave plantations where people still worked off-farm jobs and raised families today. The community has grown slowly since its founding but it retains a strong sense of community identity because its residents have been able to maintain close relationships with one another for generations despite living near each other for only a few miles or so on average. A number of unique features make Woodridge stand out from other rural communities: 1) The annual "Festival du village" (village fair), which celebrates local arts and crafts; 2) An extensive network of roads that allow villagers to get between their homes and job sites within minutes or less; 3) A large park with sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and several grocery stores nearby;4) Many schools – both elementary and high school – providing educational opportunities for local children;5) An active church congregation that meets monthly at the church basement

Woodridge is a small community in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Chicago metropolitan area and is part of the Rockford-Naperville–Joliet Combined Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1871 by brothers Isaac and Amos Woodridge as a farmstead on the west side of the Chicago River. The first settlers were Methodists who named their settlement after God's choice for his people, Mount Zion in Jerusalem. They soon built a log cabin and began planting maize, beans, pumpkins and other vegetables to support themselves and their families. In 1875, they erected a school building which served until 1954 when it was replaced by a modern structure. In 1911, Amos Woodridge donated land to build an elementary school which became Woodridge High School; later renamed Kennedy-Johnson High School after two U.S. Presidents (John F Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson). The town also purchased land for a Community Pool in 1957 which remains operational today as one of its main attractions. In 1969, President Richard M Nixon presented Mrs Elizabeth Kappan with her Medal of Honor for her actions during that year's Vietnam War protests against United States involvement in that conflict; she had been working with students at her alma mater North Park University to stage sit-ins against major corporations such as DuPont Co., Motorola Inc., Dow Chemical Co., IBM Corp., AIG Incorporated et al.. Mrs Kappan currently resides in Woodridge along with other members of Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur's congressional delegation whose home town is also located there: Ms Kaptur represents Cleveland Heights/Mequon Township (the township across from Woodridge) on the House floor while Mr Rashida Tlaib represents Detroit Lakes/Lansing Township on the Senate floor..
The town of Woodridge was founded in 1848 by John F. Potter and his wife, Hannah. The Potters were the first white settlers in the area that would become Woodridge. They built a cabin on the bank of the Illinois River and named their settlement after their daughter, who also helped to found the town. The first school was established in 1849 and it served as a place for kids from surrounding villages to attend. In 1862, when Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army invaded Illinois, Woodridge joined forces with other towns in support of the Confederacy. After the war, many people left Woodridge to find new homes outside of Illinois. However, some residents stayed and started businesses such as grocery stores and hotels. In 1954, when Illinois became an all-black state, Woodridge made history by becoming one of its few towns integrated into black society.
