Woodridge is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–La Grange Metropolitan Area. The history of Woodridge can be traced back to 1831 when Daniel Webster bought 640 acres (249 hectares) of land southwest of Chicago for $1,000. He named his new community after himself and his wife woodland ridge on a bluff overlooking the then-unimaginable River Des Plaines. In 1836, he donated another 100 acres (40 hectares) to the town site for school purposes only; this became known as the Webster School District. In 1849, James Fenton opened what would become one of the first stores in Woodridge when he opened The Fenton Store on State Street between Adams and Randolph streets. By 1860, there were twenty-four stores in town with a population of 2,500. A post office was established in 1865 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902 when electric service arrived to town. A fire destroyed most of the downtown business district on November 9th 1863 during an attempted robbery by two men armed with pistols and revolvers who had mistaken Woodridge for a farmstead near Joliet that they were raiding looking for cattle to steal. One man died from his injuries while nine others were taken into custody including three storekeepers who had been helping secure goods from the burning building before escaping unharmed thanks to timely warning signals from residents inside their businesses). As a result of this attack on downtown Woodridge business districts began an era which would last into the early 20th century characterized by vandalism against storefronts as well as general violence throughout much of rural DuPage County despite efforts by law enforcement agencies to reduce such incidents; these days crime rates have generally declined since then though major attacks still occur occasionally particularly around Halloween time Despite this dark past some aspects remain quite Sparkle like such as many local businesses continue to welcome tourists year round due primarily to its rich history and scenic beauty!

Woodridge is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Woodridge was founded in 1847 by James and Susannah Phelps as Phelpsville after they bought 2,000 acres (800 ha) of forested land east of Chicago from John Pemberton. The name "Phelpsville" meant simply "place where woodcrafts were made." In 1855, the Phelps family donated another 2,500 acres (1 km2) to make up the present-day Village of Woodridge. James Phelps served as its first mayor and treasurer from 1857 to 1861 and his wife Susannah joined him on these posts during their terms. In 1863, Woodridge became one of twenty-eight townships within Cook County when it was created from a portion of McLean Township. It remains an unincorporated community today though it has had some government activity including a school district and a fire station since the early 20th century. The village's lumberyard was established in 1868 by Ainsworth & Company which still exists as an anchor tenant in the Village hall complex on Howard Street near Central Park South. Other early businesses included Fenton Furniture Store which opened in 1870 and closed in 1916; Joplin Mercantile Agency which opened in 1870; Smith Bros grocery store (later known as Just arrival); Crippen Drugstore; Ford car dealership; First National Bank building (now home to Quicken Loans Arena); Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant until 1978; Arnold's Ice Cream Parlor until 1984 although it no longer serves ice cream; Masonic Temple between 1944 and 1948 - now used for storage purposes The original post office operated from 1865 to 1903 inside what is now Goodyear tire plant buildings before moving into new facilities at 261 Wabash Avenue south of Elmhurst avenue until moved back to central location north of Homan Road in 1903 due to increased mail volume caused by railroad expansion westward over Lake Michigan
