Woodridge is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It lies in the eastern part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Woodridge was organized on December 15, 1879, when a group of farmers and mechanics working for John Kinzie formed the first village government. The first meeting officers were Wm. Hirschman (manager) and Fenton Burr (treasurer). On January 6, 1880, James M. Ketchum became the first town clerk and Treasurer. The first building in the Village was located on State Street between Jackson and Dearborn Streets; it burned down in 1902. In 1881, local citizens built a schoolhouse on their property east of present-day Clinton Boulevard south of I-294/I-88 exit 362 for use by students from nearby Oak Park and Wellesley Hills schools; this school served as Woodridge's primary educational institution until 1957 when that community's high school moved to its present location adjacent to I-294/I-88 exit 359 north of campus
Woodridge was founded in 1837 by a group of farmers led by Isaac Hicks. The town was named for Colonel John Woodruff, an early settler who donated land to the community. The first school in Woodridge opened in 1839. In 1861, the town became part of the new state of Illinois.
