Woodridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Woodridge was incorporated in 1892 and became a city in 1961. The name "Woodridge" comes from theoak trees that are found near the town's location on the banks of the Calumet River. One legend says that when General Anthony Wayne came to Illinois in 1795, he saw an oak tree growing near what is now Woodridge and decided to name his new settlement after it. The first settler in what would become Woodbridge Township was John Hite who arrived about 1800. Reverend Pemberton built a small log cabin on the site which served as his home until 1840 when he moved to Downers Grove (now Arlington Heights). A gristmill operated by Elijah Dixon located just south of present day Town Hall was one of the first businesses in what would become Woodbridge Township. By 1850, there were ten residences and five stores within the limits of present-day Woodbridge Township. A post office was established atpresent-daytownhall on December 12, 1851; James Witherspoon served as its first commander In 1861, with railroad construction underway throughout Cook County, City Council voted to annex portions of Oak Park and influence from neighboring townships while continuing to operate as an independent township with its own government and school board Despite being annexed by neighboring Oak Park along with other adjacent townships during this time period, much development did not occur until after World War II when federal money began flowing into Cook County for infrastructure projects including transportation projects such as roads and airports that would later impact both cities During this time frame also occurred some important changes within Village of Woodridge itself including incorporation of a recreation center (opened in 1957) followed by fire protection services (opened in 1967), police services (opening in 1974) and finally annexation into City Limits by Chicago on January 1st 1984 giving rise to today’s Mayor form elected every four years Today's community includes over 4500 residents who maintain strong ties through their many organizations including local churches/synagogues/ mosques etc., primary economic sector consisting primarily of manufacturing but also contains some retail operations; service sector comprising mainly professional & technical employees

Woodridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Woodridge was founded in 1871 by John Wesley Wright and his family as a small farming community on the banks of the Des Plaines River. In 1964, it became an incorporated town. John Wesley Wright was born in 1821 in Litchfield County, Connecticut to parents who were farmers. When John Wesley was only 8 years old, his father died and he had to take care of the farm alone until he could finish high school. He then went on to study law at Southwestern Law School in Dallas, Texas before coming back to Illinois and starting a practice with his brother-in-law Augustus Fenton Snively. In 1868, John Wesley married Sarah Juché and moved their family to what is now known as Woodridge; they would live there for the rest of their lives. They started out by raising chickens but soon realized that they needed more than just eggs to make money from their business: they needed meat too! So they began selling pigs and hogs from their home (and later Frome Farm) into nearby villages and townships for a price that allowed them to maintain some independence from those pesky local farmers while still making a profit! The couple also operated a store next door (later upgraded into what is now called the Wright House), which dealt mainly in groceries but also sold items such as clothiers' shawls or ladies' gloves; it's said that one customer actually came up to John Wesley while he was working inside and told him directly that he had never seen anything like it before! In 1876, when Sarah gave birth to their first son William Jr., she retired from her job at the store so that William could go off to college full time instead—an unheard of thing for women then! The Wrights continued running their business even though William Jr.'s college education didn't exactly start off well: he failed both tests required for graduation from Northwestern University but managed nonetheless to get his degree in mechanics! But despite this setback (and Sarah's usual hard work), her husband always remained optimistic about life - often telling her stories about how things would turn out okay because "God always help those who help themselves." After Williams graduated from college with his engineering degree in 1880, John Wesley took over most of his dad's trading posts around central Illinois – including one near present day Waukegan – selling goods such as flour, hardware supplies, saddles and harnesses etc., along with fishing trips downriver whenever necessary so that everyone could afford good food no matter where they lived within limits set by governmental regulations at the time... needless mention here are all connections made through word-of-mouth throughout our region today!!! After many years managing these trading posts successfully we relocated again(1901)to new location located on current site…. Thank you Mrs./Dr./Son/ grandson….. Memories continue….. 11/8/2018
Woodridge was founded in 1847 by John F. Webb and his wife, Clarissa. The Webers were pioneers in the area, moving to Illinois from Ohio in 1847. They started a mill on the current site of Woodridge in 1848 and soon developed a small town with their farmstead as its nucleus. In 1861, the Webbs donated land for a public school and built a new schoolhouse. In 1865, they established the first bank in Woodridge, which continued to serve the community until 1961 when it merged into First National Bank of Springfield. They also helped found I-55 in 1956 and served as incorporators/founders/ Directors until their death in 1984.
