Woodridge is a small town in Illinois, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Woodridge is located on the banks of the Chicago River near Independence Mall and Rushmore Gardens. The town was founded in 1835 by Dr. James Krieger and his wife, Catharine (née Goodrich). Krieger had come from a family of landholders in what is now Delaware County, Ohio; he bought 160 acres (65 hectares) of woodland near what is now Woodridge for $5 per acre. In 1836, he organized a township to house his new community, which became known as "Krieger Township." The first school was built on land donated by Dr. John Ralston Purcell—the founder of Rushmore Gardens—and opened in 1838. In 1840, Krieger married Catharine White; they had four children: Anna Maria (1841-1923), James Franklin Krier (1843-1927), Lucy Margaret (1845-1925), and Katharine Rae Krier (1847-1931). In 1848, when Illinois became an American state, Krier Township merged with neighboring Harrison Township to form Woodridge Township. The first post office was established at Woodridge in 1840; it served as the only address until 1861 when it changed its name to "Rushmore." In 1862, Orin Cushing purchased 5 square miles (12 km2) of wooded property east of the village for $10 per acre ($1 million equivalent today). This new land formed what are now Rushmore Gardens and Independence Mall. On July 6, 1865–67, during the American Civil War, Union General George Meek invaded and burned down parts of Woodridge; this event is commemorated by a monument located on Main Street that reads: "In Memory Of The Burned Down Home Of Doctor James Kraemer And His WifeCatharine Black And Their Two Children" In 1870–72 two more schools were built: one called Park School and another called Christmastime School with classes starting Sept 15th 1870 Wegman's Grove School started Oct 3rd 1870 soon after wegmans grove came into being

Woodridge is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. It has been since incorporation in 1871 and is one of the oldest towns in Illinois. Woodridge was laid out on a tract of land patented by Abraham Lincoln, who named it for his maternal ancestor, Major General Jonathan Edwards Woodridge. The original settler families were Quakers from Northampton County, Pennsylvania. One of the first businesses established in Woodridge was a grocery and feed store run by John Witherspoon and his brother-in-law William Stevenson. In 1872, Josephine Morton opened her own dry goods store in what is now the Main Street building which served as the town's first post office from 1870 to 1873. In 1881, James Fenton opened a hotel and restaurant called The Lion's Den which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in town. In 1889, Drury Lane Opera House became an important cultural center for local residents with its ability to seat up to 400 people for performances such as Wagner's Ring cycle and Gilbertand Sullivan operas. During prohibition era (1920-1927), many bootlegging operations took place around town including El Paso Bottling Works which produced more than 2 million gallons of liquor per day according to police records Tommy Gunn’s dance hall quickly became known as “the best place to get your kicks” due to its continuous flow of music throughout the night until morning . After Prohibition ended, gambling houses continued operation until around 1949 but there are no longer any active business left today that can be considered part of community history
The town of Woodridge was founded in 1847 by the merger of two small towns, West Green and East Green. The new town was named for General James G. Woodridge, an American hero who had fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. The first post office in Woodridge opened on October 1, 1847. In 1868, the town merged with neighboring village of East Moline to form a larger community known as Woodridge-East Moline.
