Woodridge is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria metropolitan area. Woodridge was founded in 1868 by John C. Eaton and became a municipality in 1905. The town center is located on Elm Street near I-69 and U.S. Route 34 W. The name comes from "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau, which means "west wood." The first settler in what would become Woodridge was John C Eaton who arrived there in 1868 with his family from New England. Eaton developed a farmstead that still stands today on land now known as Elm Street between I-69 and US R34 W just south of the present day community of Woodridge Village (then called Green Township). At first, Eaton used some trees he had brought over with him from Massachusetts to build his home; however, due to moisture concerns (the early 1800s were very wetter than they are today), he decided to plant corn and beans on his new farmstead instead Later that same year, Eaton's wife Margaretta gave birth to their only child – a boy – named Orson Hodge Eaton Jr.. After Margaretta's death in 1870 during childbirth, Orson Sr., then 9 years old took care of the children while his father worked at home John Fenton also moved into the area late in 1868 after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) around what would become Elm Street from John Eaton for $5 per acre . He built himself a log cabin on this property which still stands today as Fenton Cabin #1 . In 1870 when Fenton purchased additional land along Elm Street including current day Woodridge Village he renamed it “Woodbridge” after one of his favorite places back home on Islip Sound off Long Island where he had spent summers as an infant . Some time later Fenton sold all his holdings within the village limits except for what remains today’s shopping plaza lot (@ | = east side of main street) to James Hopley who organized and platting out nearly 2 square miles (3 km²) of central business district around it making it one large block beginning 3rd Ave north & west & continuing east under 5th St until picnicking lots began lining up southeast between 3rd Ave N & S & 4th Ave W thence southwesterly past picnicking Lots until Park Row Avenue filled up before final easement allowed erection of Post Office building Dept Store about 1916 Needless to say post office closed long ago but building still standing

Woodridge is a small town in Illinois, located about 20 miles south of Chicago. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. Woodridge is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and has been around since 1814 when it was founded by Captain James Butler and his wife Nancy Chaucer Butler. The first settlers in what is now Woodridge were some of the earliest white men to cross the Mississippi River into what is now Illinois. They were led by Capt. James Butler and his wife Nancy Chaucer Butler. When they arrived, they founded a small village on the banks of the river called Village on the Prairie which they named after their home country, Ireland. After several years, these early settlers decided to move their village closer toChicago so that they could get more direct access to trade with India and other parts of Europe. The original village site was located near present day Elmhurst Avenue and State Street near where Canaday Road enters County Road 919 today. The original inhabitants of this area still live there today as did many other pioneers during this time period who came to Indiana Territory for opportunities available there such as land grants, farming subsidies, and new technology patents from European inventions like steamboats and rifles which he patented himself. Captain James Butler's grandson moved his family from Ireland to America in 1814 when he was just over 21 years old according to historical records; however, he never reached America because he died very young at only 24 years old while serving in military duty in Flanders during World War I before reaching America shores safely via shipwreck off California’s coast two weeks later on October 3rd 1915 just days after American entry into World War I! His death marked an important milestone for both America and Irish immigrants who had played key roles in helping create this great nation! One important ancestor of Captain James butler's grandson also lived here briefly - Drury Waddell son of Mr John (Drew) Waddell who served as justice commissioner for Cook County from 1847-1855 & 1861-1865 & died November 25th 1830 age 71 yrs 10 months 6 days; born Februar 22nd 1793 d/o Revd Richard D'Arcy Waddell (born May 8th 1785) Moral Guardian Of Nuns Roman Catholic Church At Oak Park Asst Pastor Also Physician To Mother Superior In All That Was Sacred And Holy Amongst Her Children Born Out Of wedlock In A Family Which Kept Religion Closely Connected Throughout Its Lifetimes—A Legacy That Still Lives Today Within Our Community—Born Onto A landed gentry Bush Pilot Fathersfamily DNA Tested January 15th 2021 Documents show Drew Waddell’s father being Mr John D’Arcy who emigrated from Ireland with his parents Daniel Conroy Waddell (1768-1848), Bridget Fenton Conroy(1773-1837), Patience Humphreys(1776-1846).
Woodridge was one of the original towns in Cook County, Illinois. The town was named for General James Woodbury, who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives. The first store in Woodridge opened in 1838. In 1850, the town had a population of 347 people and it grew to 521 people by 1860. In 1868, Woodridge became part of Chicago and its incorporation into Cook County marked the beginning of a period during which Woodridge saw rapid growth. By 1880, the town had an estimated population of 1,500 people and it reached 2,000 people by 1890. In 1915, Woodridge merged with neighboring Hinsdale to form another large city called Chicago Heights.
