He built a cabin near what is now the intersection of North Broad Street and West Main Street. In 1865, residents of nearby Bedford (now Bloomington) organized themselves into a village for trade purposes only; Woodridge joined them shortly thereafter. The first post office in Woodridge was opened on October 5, 1865 under the name of Bedford Village."
