The town of Wood River, Illinois is located in the southwestern corner of the state of Illinois. It is bordered by Moultrie to the east and north, Belknap County to the west, and Randolph County to the south. The population of Wood River was 5,813 as of the 2010 census. The history of Wood River dates back to 1811 when a group of Mormons founded a small community called Kimball on what is now State Road 21 near present-day Garden City. The first post office in Wood River was established in 1816 and it remained in operation until 1875. In that year, it was renamed after General James K. Polk who had served as president during the American Civil War. During World War II, Wood River participated in both World War I and World War II as part of the United States Military Forces. The city saw its first major military action during World War II when Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. During that attack, more than sixty people were killed and over one hundred were injured within the city limits alone. Since then, Wood River has been home to an assortment of businesses including banks, restaurants, stores and other types of businesses which have helped make it an important local center for commerce and industry throughout much of its history. Gun Grips History is a vast topic that has been touched on by many people. The history of grips can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans who used them for various purposes such as holding arrows, spears, or other weapons. Historical records show that handguns were also Grip-operated before they becameirable pistols. The modern grip was first designed in 1875 by American firearms designer John Browning and patented as US Patent No. 5,020. It consisted of two parts: the frame and the grip (or handguard). The frame was made out of hardwood or metal with a sling swivel stud located at one end; this gave the gun its nickname “Pistol” because it could be fired without taking off the stock. The grip itself was made from rubber or some other material that acted as a natural recoil buffer. It was typically held in one hand with the thumb resting over top of the trigger guard/grip area while using the other hand to hold onto the barrel shroud/stock(s). This method allowed an individual to fire quickly and accurately without having their hands shake too much from recoil. The pistol grip design continued to be developed through World War I until it was replaced by what is now known as magazine-fed guns in 1934 when regulatory changes necessitated a change in shooting habits due to increased numbers of machineguns being fielded during World War II. Magazine-fed guns featured more reliable rotary magazines which eliminated Shakeback problems associated with earlier gripping methods, however there were still some issues which needed to be addressed if muzzle velocity goals were ever going to be met: With respect to accuracy, magazine fed guns achieved higher muzzle velocities than those using traditional triggers; however this didn’t mean they were automatically more accurate than those utilizing manual triggers (i.e., handguns relying on hammer pull alone for firing); rather, they tended towards having slightly better S&W Model 633 sights than manual trigger-fired handguns did despite having less force behind them when pulled back (due mainly to their larger diameter handlebars). In order for these new machines rifle shooters had become accustomed too use both hands instead of just one – something which automatic pistols simply couldn’t accomplish given their small size compared to rifles – so unless you happened To have extremely large hands like Jack Dempsey or Larry Holmes you really only gained benefit from using a manual trigger over an automatic pistol even though your shots may appear cleaner because you are not subjectively shaking your gun around like someone does when firing manually

Wood River is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois, United States. The population was 2,903 at the 2010 census. It is located in Macon County. The town began as part of the original Fort Dearborn post on the Macon River and was named after Colonel John Wood (1788-1857), who had served with General Wayne in the War of 1812 and become a hero at that battle. In 1837, Colonel Wood's son ^ Henry W^ood took over management of Fort Dearborn and renamed it Wood River to honor his father. The first school in the village was built in 1840 by Mrs. Cranch Lytle and operated for one year before being closed due to lack of pupils. A new school building was completed in 1845 by Reverend James Halsey and opened for instruction. In 1860, when Cass County was created, Wood River became part of it; however, it remained unincorporated until 1951 when it incorporated as a municipality under its present name. As a result of this incorporation, many unique aspects of local history have arisen such as: - A high school which has been open since 1907 - More than 50 businesses including several banks - An agricultural center where corn, soybeans, wheat and other crops are grown - Many art galleries including one owned by Sears Roebuck & Co., which owns much of downtown woodRiver
The first Europeans to explore the Illinois River area were French explorers in the late 18th century. The land that is now Illinois was explored by Native Americans, including the Chicago Comanches and Ojibwe. In 1778, French explorer Jean-Baptiste de la Salle discovered a group of islands in the river and named them Lac du Lac because of the many waterfalls he saw. In 1779, Captain James Cook sailed past what is now Illinois on his way to find new routes to Asia. He landed on one of these islands and named it Illini Island after his explorations. In 1803, an American expedition followed Cook's route and discovered what would become Illinois when they encountered a snowstorm near Dubuque. They called this spot "Illinois" because they thought it resembled France's "Island of Montresor." On July 12, 1803, General William Hull purchased all of present-day Illinois from the Miami people for $10,000. The United States acquired this area through purchase from Spain in 1809 and again in 1812 as part of the Treaty of Fort Donelson following their defeat at Buena Vista Creek. The first permanent settler in what is now Illinois was Isaac McCoy who arrived on April 6, 1800, during the Northwest Territory government's initial survey for territory east of Lake Michigan. Iowa Territorial Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest also settled in this area at about this time; he soon abandoned it due to problems with malaria mosquitoes which he believed caused cholera epidemics among settlers living along the Missouri River Valley]. When territorial governments changed hands often over several years during America's formative years (1815–1821), much of present-day Illinois remained under Spanish control until ceded to United States by Mexico following its independence from Spain in 1821. As part of that process, two U.S.-owned grants were made available for settlement within what is now southern Indiana: one grant went out to John Jacob Astor; the other went to Daniel Webster.] After American soil arrived thereabouts—and especially after white men began settling downriver—the region quickly became known as "the Prairie", or "the Open Country".
