In 1916 when World War I began local businesses throughout McHenry County went into shutdown due to lack of food or fuel supplies; but soon enough things changed when prices for goods increased along with demand for war materials throughout much of Europe which made us all very fortunate! At this time most factories closed down during WWII but not WoodRiver's—in fact they actually saw more growth thanks to wartime industry stimulus packages like these: "Despite being hit hard by war-time production bans, mill owners managed to keep their mills running despite having few customers outside warfare-related industries." In 1840, the town of Clearwater was founded nearby and then, in 1844, the town of Indianola.
