Wood River is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1853 as a log cabin settlement on the banks of the Wood River. In 1881, it became a station on the Great Western Railroad. It later became a junction for several lines of railroad, and its name changed to Wood River in 1922. In 1954, the school district that served Wood River merged with other districts in Macomb County. In 2006, the community incorporated as a local government entity and adopted an ordinance adopting its own form of government with responsibility for all aspects of municipal life from police and fire to building permits and zoning laws. The population growth rate for Wood River has been modest but steady over recent decades; during 2007-2010 it increased by only 2%. The decline in this rate occurred between 2011-2015 when population growth rates decreased by 5%. According to 2000 U.S Census data, there were 1,568 people living in Wood River (1% of the total population). This increase to 2% during 2007-2010 can be explained by an increase in commuters coming into town from nearby villages or townships which had larger populations at that time such as Sterling Heights (2%) or Ottawa (2%). Furthermore since 2006 when local government entities have begun taking control over many aspects of municipality life there has been an overall trend towards smaller villages gradually shrinking while larger cities have become more centralized due to economic reasons alone or through merger/affiliation with other cities elsewhere within their metropolitan areas

This type of weapon became known as “Gatling guns” after one such weapon used in WWI

The town of Wood River, Illinois was founded in 1835 by a group of men who had come from the eastern part of the United States. The town was named for the large wooded area that surrounded it. The town continued to grow and by 1865, there were over 400 people living in Wood River. In 1892, Wood River became an incorporated city. In 1976, the city merged with neighboring Overland Park to form one municipality called Kansas City MO.
