Wood Dale is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 547 at the 2010 census. Wood Dale was founded in 1871 by John W. Noble and his wife, Lydia Cephus Noble. It currently has a population of just over 100 residents. Wood Dale is located in the eastern portion of McLean County on the edge of the rolling Chicago countryside. The village had a post office from 1881 to 1907 and an electric company from 1907 to 1959; but it closed its doors due to financial difficulties that have persistently plagued it since then. In 1870, John W. Noble bought land east of what is now Wood Dale from Abram Bissell for $2 per acre (less than one dollar per square foot). He named his new town after himself, as he felt like he had found something special about this area – " wooded hills and fertile soil", according to one report. In 1872, Noble built a log cabin called "The Cabin" on his property; it still stands today as a museum stop on the old Wood Dale Electric Railway line that runs through the village boundaries today. By 1875, Noble had laid out four miles (6 km) of railroad track through his community – which became known as "the track mile" because every mile (.35 km) of track led off into another nearby community or village (the exception being two miles/4 km that served only Wood Dale). By 1880, when the Village Of Wooddale Wascreated within The Town Of Mclean And Its Illegany Districts In pursuance Of A Resolution Passed By The Township Committee At Their Meeting Held On October 26th Anno 1779 (#5), nearly all of what is now known as Park Ridge To The South And West Of The Village Of Mclean lays Within This Town Limits... except For What Is Now Known As Woodsdale And That Which Lies Between Park Ridge To The South And West Ofwoodsdale... All That remains Today Except For A Corner Near Where Our Road Ends & intersects With State Highway 95... This corner Is Included In Present Day Park Ridge
