Another famous resident who lived in or visited Wood Dale during this time was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who attended an outdoor rally here on February 4, 1968 to demand civil rights for African Americans before he left for Memphis to lead the civil rights movement there.

The town of Wood Dale, Illinois was founded in 1832 by the brothers Isaac and Jacob Moffatt. The town was named after a covered wagon path that crossed the Plain of Abraham. The Moffatts were early settlers in the area and decided to name their new community after an old friend, George Washington. In 1835, the first post office was established in Wood Dale. By 1840, the population of Wood Dale had reached 1,000 people. The Griggs family became one of the most prominent families in Wood Dale and played an important role in its growth. TheGriggs farmstead still stands today and is home to a museum about the life of Colonel Amos Griggs. In 1847, railroad engineers built a line from Peoria to Chicago via Wood Dale. This new route madeWood Dale much more accessible and brought many new residents into town. By 1860, Wood Dale had become an important railway junction with trains arriving from all over northern Illinois. The town also experienced significant growth due to its location on Route 66 which attracted tourists and businessmen alike. By 1870, wooddale had reached its peak as a busy commercial center with several businesses including grocery stores, hotels, banks and factoriespacesof commerce downtown During Prohibition (1912- 1933), many businesses closed because they could not continue operate without government licenses However, some notable businesses that continued tofunction during prohibition include: Lumber Yard Service Company (a company that provided lumber for local homes), Mrs Kapp’s Bakery (which supplied bread for restaurants throughout Peoria County)and Shelly’s Liquor Store (which sold liquor). In 1936, following World War II when America entered into another recession, business slowed down across all sectorsin general as people turned to what they could get their hands on instead of investing in new enterprises However; by 1945wooddale had begun experiencing major redevelopment with construction beginning on several large-scale projects such as Stonington Square shopping mall which opened in 1954 and served as a major catalyst for further development withinthe community . As suburbanization increased throughout Illinois during this time period; so too did concerns about traffic congestion within towns likePeoria County which led to heavy investment into transportation infrastructure facilities such as expresswaysand arterial streets . In response thereto; various parks were created throughouttowns across Illinois including Butte Park located just north of downtownWood Dale while others such as Riverside Park were developed adjacentto larger communities like Crystal Lake or Skokie . These developments helped create communitiesthat spanned multiple neighborhoods within city limits whilestill remaining connected through popular public transportation services like busesand trains
The town of Wood Dale, Illinois was founded in 1847 by John and Anna Woods. The town was named after John’s father, who had settled there in 1825. In 1865, the village of Wood Dale was incorporated into the Town of Wood Dale.
