In 1892, when the first firearms were imported into Wood Dale, Illinois, there was no ordinance in place regulating the sale and use of firearms. Wood Dale is a town located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,392 at the 2010 census. Wood Dale is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Wood Dale comes from the nearby woodland and valley which were named for Isaiah Westwood and his family, who had large tracts of land in that area in 1853. The first settlers to Wood Dale were German immigrants who arrived around 1847. They built log cabins on what is now North Main Street. In 1854, John Stephenson purchased some of these cabins and started a small grocery store there called The Old World Store. He also built a house on what is now South Main Street which served as his business headquarters until he died in 1893. His wife, Anna Stephenson, continued to run the store until her death in 1924. In 1857, Abraham Lincoln came to Illinois and saw the opportunities offered by the new state. He Bought 640 acres (248 hectares) north of town from John Stephenson for $5 per acre ($60 per hectare). This land became known as Washington Park after President Lincoln's birthplace in Maryland – White House Farmstead #1 (now Wilson Park). Various other pioneer families followed suit over time including Edward Jarvis (1858-1937), Isaac Dunham (1859-1941), George Hockaday (1861-1921), Julius Kruglanski & Sons lumberyard Co.; David Wieczorek pottery; Arthur Sutter flour mill; Henry Ford Auto Parts Factory; Gustavus Adolphus Edison Electric Light Company...the list goes on and on! The first post office was established at Washington Park in 1861 with Samuel Aiken as its first mail carrier! In 1865, Amos Prentice built a frame schoolhouse near where today's High School football field lies – this was soon replaced by a more permanent structure which still stands today…it has been designated an Illinois State Historical Site! In 1870 when General James Kapp took command of Union Army during the American Civil War he ordered all farmers east of Lake Michigan to clear away any trees blocking their roads so troops could move forward unimpeded! As part of this order Kapp ordered Jeremiah Woods to build him a woodburner so he could start fires along his march! Jeremiah Woods did just that and began burning logs from local trees for fuel near where we stand today…..this began what would become known as "Wood Dale Fire Department"! It wasn't until 1904 when they started using gaslights!! When Prohibition hit America in 1919 many businesses closed down but although prohibitionism destroyed much physical evidence within Wood Dale it didn't stop people from continuing their traditions such as hayrides during summertime or hosting agricultural fairs during fall/winter months! In fact many residents still dress up like cowboy characters at tradeshows held throughout the greater Chicago area every year!!!
