Cutler was an early exponent of revolver ownership and developed the first practical handgun. Wilmette was founded in 1881 by John P. Quinn and his brothers, James and Michael Quinn. The Quinn brothers were responsible for developing the soft drink industry in Illinois and had a strong interest in firearms. They started a company that produced pistols and revolvers, which they named the “Chicago Typewriter” company because they sold their weapons at newsstands across Chicago (the type of weapon used then being typewriters). In 1907, Hardin & Company began manufacturing handguns in Wilmette. This company became well-known for their high-quality firearms products, including revolvers, submachineguns, shotguns, rifles and pistols. Hardin & Company continued to operate until 1968 when it merged with Hennig & Co., Incorporated to form H&C Corporation (now Springfield Armory). From 1908 until 1916 Hardin & Company manufactured rifles for the military; these guns were known as the “Hornet” series rifles. In 1916 Hardin & Company merged with Savage Arms Corporation to become Savage Arms Corporation/Hardin Manufacturing Co., Incorporated (later Springfield Armory) under license from Colt Firearms Corporation (now Colt Defense Group). In 1934 Colt Firearms Corporation purchased Savage Arms Corp./Hardin Manufacturing Co., Incorporated from its parent corporation H&C Corporation for $1 million ($24 million at current prices). Wilmette is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County and home to the Chicago Bears of the National Football League. The first settler in what would become Wilmette was John Pemberton in 1836. He started a gristmill on the now-defunct River Road near present day Michigan Avenue and built a house on it for his wife and five children. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1847 but rebuilt within a year. By 1850, there were five sawmills operating in Wilmette; by 1860, there were 12 mills employing over 1,000 workers. One of these mills became known as "the Queen" because it produced more than anyone else In 1865, Eugene Debs organized the Knights of Labor for strike action against Abraham Lincoln's new American Civil War policies which led to an American Dictatorship. While working at one of the mills during this time he met Emma Snopes who became his wife soon after that event. In 1868 they had their first child when she was 19 years old and named him Eugene Debs Jr.. They later had two more children: Roseanna (b1931) and John Fenton Debs III (b1945). In 1870 they moved from Wilmette to Hyde Park where they lived until their death in 1934 leaving behind a remarkable cultural legacy including becoming co-founders of Northwestern University This process also began with them coming up with an idea for doing away with public education in Illinois so that people could go to college instead while still living under government controls They started Northwestern as an autonomous private school but eventually sold it to Loyola UniversityChicago in 1921 Wilmette residents have helped lead many different movements throughout their history such as becoming active participants in anti-Vietnam War protests during the early 1970s when most reformers were arrested or killed; supporting Mayor Richard Mapplethorpe during his controversial re-election campaign; joining forces with other local organizations opposing South Bend's proposed high school campus outside Chicago; protesting against both houses of Congress failures following Watergate; etc., etc

The last major fire that hit the city occurred on December 24th 1978 which destroyed most of downtown Wilmette with over 150 buildings burned including many popular hotels such as The Ritz Carlton and Wrigley Field Park Hotel The earliest settlers were Irish immigrants who arrived between 1831-1836 or 1840-1841 from County Carlow in Ireland via boat from Dublin Bay before travelling by wagon train through Michigan and overalls downriver to what is now Joliet Township (now Elgin) County in present day Illinois; these immigrants started farming land around what is now Chicago Heights along main Streets North Milwaukee Avenue and West Wood Street near where State Street meets Lake Street today In 1847 Captain John A Wilmette led an expedition fromChicago Heights into what are now Downers Grove Village (now Elmhurst), Aurora Township (now Harvey), Blue Island Township (now Oak Forest), Lawndale (now Mundelein), Hawthorn Woods Township (now Humboldt Park), Winnetka Township (now Winnetka Hills) & parts ofCook Territory then still part of Indiana

Wilmette was founded in 1849 by John Stephenson and his brother, Isaac Stephenson. It became a city in 1871 after it was annexed by Chicago. The city's first mayor was James A. Garfield.
