After Smith's death in 1800, his children divided their father's possessions among themselves, and Wilmette continued to be a small village until it became one of the townships of Cook County in 1835. In that year, Wilmette merged with its neighbor North Side to form a new municipality. The first gun part to be produced in Wilmette was an armory cannon from 1795-1800. In 1898, the old foundry which had been run by Master Blacksmith Peter Muehlenberg for over eighty years closed its doors due to lack of customers and competition from other manufacturers. That same year saw the introduction of the 7mm Remington rifle into America after being imported by British arms manufacturer Wilkinson & Sons Ltd.. It wasn't until 1911 that American production began on 5.56mm NATO rounds with a designed by Colonel John Browning that made up much of America's handgun ammunition supply through World War I. After World War II ended, firearms manufacturing slowly resumed as people turned their attention towards civilian use instead of military conflict. However, there were still many firearms manufactured during this time period which remain unique to Illinois residents today - such as the Colt Python revolver (introduced in 1903), Peacemaker pistols (manufactured between 1907 and 1915), or Pinto car pistols (produced between 1927 and 1935).

One of Sylvester's sons ran this store until his death in 1902; his son's grandson continues the family tradition and operates the store as an independently owned business today too. In 1839, two brothers – George Washington Snively and Lewis Snively – founded a trade center at what is now Roosevelt Road on Western Avenue just south of present day State Street - which served as both their business headquarters and their home for many years afterwards (George Washington Snively died there in 1865). After years of growth due to Trade Shows being held there by various businesses including millinery retailers Simmons & Warde & Company, importing goods from all over Europe etc., Race Street was built east side adjacent to where Roosevelt road now stands as housing for white working class people during prohibition era when black people were not allowed inside white businesses
