The first issue of the Chicago Daily News included material from gun magazines. In 1865, two brothers named John Prentice and Isaac Newmark started a cigar store on State Street in Wilmette. They began selling pistols and rifle cartridges at low prices to people who wanted to buy ammunition but didn’t have the money to buy it outright. These early pistol stores were called “Prentice & Newmark Rifle Magazines” because they sold only GUNS! Ammo wasn’t introduced into this country until after World War II! A few small businesses offer conversion kits allowing assembly of any factory-issued revolver with any type of magazine (9x19mm Luger included), though this usually requires modification to barrel manufacturing specifications so feeding from outside the gun eliminates risk of feeding problems encountered when using other brands of magazine

Wilmette is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 16,747 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was located along the banks of the Des Plaines River and was founded in 1836 by John Wilmette and his brothers Samuel and Ebenezer. The name derived from "Willemotte" (a place near Rouen in Normandy), where John had been born in 1784. The first store in Wilmette opened its doors on December 6, 1836, and it quickly became an important hub for commerce within the fledgling community. By 1850, there were several stores and a post office servicing the town. One of Wilmette's most famous residents, Isadora Duncan,[1] was born here on September 10, 1847. She later served as president pro tempore of the United States Senate from 1951 to 1957. During World War II, Wilmette played host to more than 20 military installations including ammunition factories and plants;[2] all but one closed during that conflict. In 1947-48, construction began on what would become known as Soldier Field – then one of North America's largest sports stadiums – which helped rename downtown Wilmette as "Hollywood Park". The stadium hosted both football games and basketball tournaments before being demolished in 1998 due to budget cuts following Mayor Richard M.] Daley's initiative.[3][4] A new soccer stadium called Toyota Park has since been built adjacent to Hollywood Park across State Street from the old stadium site.[5] Today, many businesses have closed or moved out of downtown Wilmette over concerns about traffic congestion or competition from newer towns within Cook County such as Skokie and Evanston; however, some continue to operate out of their original locations with minimal alteration or redevelopment until reaching their final destination about two miles away off I-90/I-294 south towards Elmhurst Road which also includes a Sheraton hotel complex used by USA Gymnastics since 2003 when owner Art Ross announced he would sell his land holdings Renowned gymnastics coach Todd Lauer owns a majority interest in

Wilmette, Illinois is a small town located in the Midwestern United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. The Wilmette area began as part of what is now Peoria County and was first settled by English colonists in 1785. It became a municipality in 1854, and then a village in 1909. In 1960, it became an incorporated town. The town of Wilmette was named after General George Washington's original home on the Potomac River in Virginia. The General had been born there in 1781 and died at his estate near Alexandria, Virginia, two years before he moved to Wilmette to live with his family. The community was first built on land that now contains part of Northwestern Illinois University (NIU). At one time, NIU operated thirteen schools including three high schools: Armstrong High School (now North Central College), Griggs High School (now Griggs Academy), and Washington Junior Senior High School (now Washington-Stull Memorial High School). From 1800 until 1825, when railroads crossed the Great Lakes region and took advantage of new transportation opportunities beyond the river systems available to earlier pioneers – many residents were transported to central Illinois for work – much of this same land lay within today's limits of NIU’s campus; only about 12% of present-day Wilmette acres were developed during that time period Today’s downtown streetscape reflects its past incarnation as a agricultural center with stocksyards and other livestock farming operations dating back centuries; prior thereto small parcels along main thoroughfares were used for suchrelated activities as grocery stores, services stations or churches… Prior to annexation by NUI in 1907 all zoning restrictions still extant at that time applied unchanged not only to business areas but also residences adjacent thereto which included single family homes/citieshows/etc., believed necessary for continuedresidential development while university functioned; thus today open fields once bordered by Hwy 111 & Elm St both bordering Northwestern Univ Courthouse lot are deeply bounded W by Walnut St & E by Ilsley Rd
Wilmette was founded in 1836 by Gideon Welles and the Welles brothers. The town grew rapidly, and by 1840 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1847, Wilmette became the capital of Illinois.
