Wheeling, Illinois is a city located in southwestern Illinois. The population was 939 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheeling-Iaile, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Chicago-Naperville-Kenilworth, IL Combined Statistical Area. The city was founded by German immigrants in 1837 and became a center for agriculture and transportation during the early 19th century. In 1871, Wheeling became an independent town after merging with other smaller towns in central Illinois. When the state of Illinois merged with Indiana on November 1, 1913, Wheeling became one of its cities. The history of Wheeling can be traced back to 1837 when German immigrants first arrived in what is now Wheeling, Illinois. At that time, it was known as "Wieching." The name derived from Wickenburg Township which was east of where today's downtown area stands and west of where Black Hawk Creek flows into Lake Michigan. Originally called "Wickenburg," this township became part of Rock Island County when that county was organized on April 15, 1827 under the terms of the Indiana Constitution. On November 1, 1913 - days beforeanticipated Union Army attack upon Fort Sumter in South Carolina - Wheeling merged with other small towns within central Illinois to become an independent town under the name "Wheeling." This merger resulted in significant changes for both cities: For example, while Rock Island County continued to exist as an administrative entity within Indiana until 1868 (when it too joined Indiana), Wheling became an autonomous municipal unit within Chicago on January 1st following the passage of Municipal Code No. 565 on December 3rd,. 1945 The economy of Wheeling has been mainly based on agriculture since its founding; however, there has been some progress made towards industrialization over time as well due to their location near major transportation hubs such as Chicago and Indianapolis. Wheat production remains a dominant industry here; however dairy production has also become increasingly important over time due to its close proximity to large milk producers such as those found in Wisconsin or Iowa. Additionally, manufacturing jobs have evolved into more modern forms here thanks to advancements in technology; notably aerospace engineering which began developing here around 1960s during World War II when nearby Rockwell International created missiles factory here In recent years there have been several efforts made by city officials to revitalize downtown; including development around First National Bank Park which incorporates Class A office space and two hotels/motels adjacent thereto along with public art installations throughout various parts of the park 1) Downtown Development Authority v2 (DDA) – A redevelopment agency chaired by Mayor Tom Barrettlez that focuses exclusively on renovating downtown core areas including windowsills and streetlights throughout commercial buildings 2) Urban Land Institute – An organization focused exclusively upon urban planning issues related towheeling & surrounding communities

Wheeling is a city in Illinois, United States. The population was 63,752 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County and home to the Wheeling Steel Works, which makes heavy steel products. The first Europeans to enter what is now Wheeling were French traders who landed in 1763 on the Potomac River. The area that became Wheeling was part of Virginia until 1776 when it became part of Canada as part of the Treaty of Paris after the American Revolution. After Confederation, Ohio took control of parts of West Virginia while Maryland and Virginia each retained a small piece of what would eventually become Illinois. In 1837, Michigan Territory was created from portions of Indiana and Wisconsin Territory with Waukesha County being added to Michigan just before its creation as an independent state in 1848. In 1853, Missouri assumed jurisdiction over all lands east of the Mississippi River including most present-day Illinois except for Waukesha County which remained under Indiana jurisdiction until 1868 when it became a part of Iowa. In 1871, Illinoisorganized as a general assembly through legislation passed by Congress with Wheeling serving as its capital until 16th General Assembly moved into Cairo in 1865 following military occupation by Confederate forces during the Civil War. With Chicago annexed by Chicago in 1893, Wheeling's status declined precipitously but began to revive thanks to new industrial development beginning with John Dorney's blast furnace operations at Union Station (now called "the Great Western" station) in 1903 and continuing through World War II when much production shifted to plants outside Chicago due to wartime shortages domestically caused by America's participation in World War II alone quadrupling their size from 1945-1950 alone! With steady economic growth since then (adjusted for inflation), world trade has again drawn attention back to Wheeling thanks especiallyto recent developments such as large investments in high-tech research and development spinouts known as "the I-Beam" project led by CEO Jeff Immelt; this $5 billion project will create more than 60 thousand jobs over 10 years and bring 2 million people into metropolitan areas across America!
