When ARMY Ammunition was founded in 1881, it was the first ammunition company in Wheeling. The company manufactured all types of general purpose ammunition including shotgun rounds, rifle rounds and pistol rounds. ARMY Ammunition also produced artillery shells and mortar shells. In 1915, ARMY Ammunition merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-ARMY Ammunition Corporation. At Winchester-ARMY Ammunition Corporation’s peak production in 1945, the company produced over 480 million rounds of ammunition a year.
