Wheaton is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,534 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Wheaton was organized on November 1, 1837 from a part of then- incorporated Aurora Township. On December 12, 1847, it became an independent town with a population of 539 people. In 1850 its name was changed to Wheaton Heights after the rise to prominence of Wheaton businessman George Prentice and his son Lewis Prentice in Aurora Township's business circles. The townsite extended from Prospect Avenue eastward to Higgins Road and westward to Pulaski Road. In 1870–71, the Village Board voted to annex portions of neighboring Park Ridge as part of their effort to make Wheaton more compact and attractive for development. This annexation (the first in Park Ridge) added 1 blocks (to present day Pulaski Road) to the town's current boundaries creating one-and-a-half square miles within the limits of today's Wheaton Village Center Park and North Park Elementary School District #1 school site - making it one of America’s earliest municipal annexations . In 1872–73 when Park Ridge annexed that portion north of Higgins Road also into its boundaries, these additional acres made up what is now housing developments called "The Villages" or "Pulaski Pointe." On July 24th 1886, during construction on what would become Northwestern University's main campus located just southwest of downtown Wheaton – then known as "Northwestern Campus", four men working for local contractor William Burt laid claim to land between Higgins Rd/Pulaski Rd & Lawrence Ave which formed most likely where our Municipal Auditorium stands today: they named their new location 'Wheaton', after themselves! This original 'wheat' field became known as Northwestern Campus' Arboretum today! With continued growth & investment by Northwestern Univ.,& subsequent expansions by other colleges nearby (including UIUC), & job opportunities throughout Northern Illinois duequinnted by relentless industrialization; by 1932 there were over 10K people living in Wheaton alone! Today we continue this proud tradition by hosting 2 annual Arbor Day Festivals each summer at Northwestern Campus' Arboretum lawn overlooking downtown Chicagoland! Lastly...on October 14th every year marks 'Fruit Festival Weekend' here at Arboretum Lawn where locals enjoy fresh fruit baskets from local vendors set out on several picnic tables outside…offering something for everyone whether looking for sustenance or entertainment!

Wheaton is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of DuPage County. The first known permanent settler in what would become Wheaton was Nicholas Matteson in 1847. Matteson donated land to the town and founded the University of Chicago on its campus as part of his gift. A post office called Mattesonville was established in 1852, but it did not remain open long and was discontinued in 1865. In 1868, a group of men from Decatur named themselves "The Western Star" and began to recruit people for their new town site on the banks of the Chicago River near what is now Union Station. They brought with them many Ideas for improving their new community which eventually became Wheaton Township. The first building erected in Wheaton Township was a schoolhouse which served grades 1-8 until 1871 when an addition to that building served as the first courthouse (now known as Park Central). In 1893, George Biddle donated land for what would become Northwestern Illinois College (now Northwestern Illinois University). That same year,Wheaton High School also opened its doors; one of the most prominent high schools in America at that time.
