Westmont, Illinois is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois. The population was 1,057 at the 2010 census. Westmont is located on the border of DuPage and Kane counties. The village of Westmont was incorporated in 1868. The first settler in what is now Westmont was John Hickey who arrived in 1837. A post office called Hickeyville was established in 1840, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1852, Isaac Bickford bought 640 acres (248 hectares) of land west of Rothschild Road and named it Westmont after his home state of Vermont. The first store opened at this location in 1853. By 1860, there were 10 businesses operating within the town limits; five banks and five grocery stores with a total market value of $2 million dollars. By 1870, all but one bank had closed down due to competition from new banks opening up throughoutDuPage County during that period; however, four farms still operated as agricultural crops or livestock operations through 1870. In 1893 William Ewing donated land east of Rothschild Road for the construction of Northwestern University's McCormick School of Agriculture which would later become UIUC's Department Of Agricultural Sciences.—Today this land forms part of UIUC's Old Campus along with several historic buildings dating back to that time including the original McCormick School building which retains its Romanesque Revival design by architect George Wessels
