By 1860, most of what is now west side of State Street had been purchased by Elisha Pease who founded Pease Farms which became one of the largest dairy farms in America and still operates today as a multi-billion dollar business empire with over 150 employees worldwide. In 1912, Elisha's son Augustus Pease donated land east of State Street for construction of Westmont High School which would serve as the town's main public school until 1968 when it was merged into nearby Hawthorne Elementary School. In 1951, westwest bus company (later known as Metra) began operations outfitting buses with air conditioning during summer months starting out at $1 per trip and grew to become one of Illinois' largest transportation providers with services running throughout Chicagoland and beyond Westmont will celebrate its centennial year this year! Highlights include events such as an open house on Saturday January 10th from 10am to 12pm followed by a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony at 2pm

The first settlers in what is now Westmont were two families who came to the area in 1827. The land that now makes up Westmont was originally part of the township of Harrisonburg. In 1837, Harrisonburg was merged into Springfield Township. At this time, Ironwood Road became part of the township map and it was designated as a main street between Springfield and Harrisonburg. In 1851, the village of Westmont was established within Springfield Township by order of the General Assembly. The first store on Ironwood Road opened in 1852 and it served as a stop on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. In 1861, when Union troops arrived during the American Civil War, they burned all but one house in what is now Westmont while taking possession of the town square from Harrisonburg. After Union troops left for good in 1865, most businessactivity ceased until after World War II when production resumed at an iron ore mine near present-day Westmont due to increased demand from steel mills throughout Illinois and Indiana. During World War II also saw growth in agriculture with production centered around cornmeal production which continued until 1970 when processed foods replaced this activity as mainstay of local economy Today's economy centers around health care services which are provided by several hospitals located within walking distance of Easton Medical Center (EMC). Other prominent businesses include Wellmark Healthcare Solutions Inc., Dental Supply Chain Solutions Inc., Coca Cola Refreshment Company USA Inc., FedEx Ground warehouse company #127-005151 and Wells Fargo Bank branch #243-001426 among others
