Westmont, Illinois is a city in the east-central United States. The population was 26,664 at the 2010 census. Westmont is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Cook County to the north and west, Lake County to the south and east, and Racine County to the southeast. The first European settlers in what is now Westmont were French traders who arrived in 1672. In 1809, John Rose bought a tract of land from George Rogers Clark for $2,500. In 1814, Isaac Brock sold 173 acres (70 hectares) of his farmstead on North Avenue to John Clementson for $844. This site would become home to Westmont School District #1 which opened its doors on October 1st, 1823 as one of four schools established by The General Assembly of Illinois under Section 8 of Act No.: 3 Geo: IV ch: 5]. On February 14th1827 a small community called "New Albion" was organized near present day Foster Road and Kedzie Avenue with twenty two residents including 9 men and 11 women; five houses were built that year." New Albion" had been abandoned because it was too cold for farming in winter and there were no mills available for cloth making during summertime due to flooding caused by heavy rains". On May 10th 1830 three men named David Sills, Daniel Butterfield and Job Martin founded what would be known as "The Grist Mill", located just east of Old Kingston Road on an parcel that had been donated by John Lewis Gist Jr., grandson of Lewis Gist Sr.. At this time there were only six families living in what would become Westmont; all but two went out into cultivation throughout the remainder of the nineteenth century."The Grist Mill" did not start shipping flour until 1840 when Abraham Lincoln became President." By 1870 there were over one thousand farmers living in what is now Westmont Township." By 1900 there were over three thousand farmers living in western Cook County alone.""In 1974 WMTD-TV Channel 12 purchased all assets from JCDecaux SA which merged with Time Warner Cable Industries Incorporated creating Charter TV Company""In 2001 WMTD-TVChannel 12 shut down its signal due to economic reasons.""Today WMTD-TV channels 6 & 7 are owned by Comcast Corporation""Westmont has always been home to many businesses such as Ford Motor Company (1906), Sears Roebuck & Co.(1926), Monsanto Company(1959), Dow Chemical Company(1979), Western Electric Products Division(1982). Today many local businesses still operate such as Applebees diners (1987) or Red Lobster restaurants (1989)." It wasn't until after World War II when advancements began being made within American agriculture that westmount started becoming known nationwide for their crops like soybeans and corn."During World War II America's leading seed companies like Pioneer Hi-Bred also set up operations here including Pioneer Seeds Limited"(1970). today these same companies continue to produce high quality seeds across multiple genres including vegetable seeds(-1998)", cottonseedlings(-1999)", wheatseeds(-2000)", sugarcane (-2002)), maize (+2003)), potatoes (+2004)"Pioneer Hi-Bred also exported meat products such as hogsand sheepskins back into Europe during this time.""Today we have several wineries located here including those belonging to Zinfandel wine fame('2005)), Chardonnay grape fame ('2006)), Sauvignon Blanc grape fame ('2007)), Pinot Gris grape fame ('2008'), Riesling grape fame ('2009')"""As mentioned earlier most local businesses have since moved away from production or closure however several iconic landmarks remain nearly unchanged such as The Grist Mill,'New Albion'','Old Kingston Road','Foster Road','Kedzie Avenue','East Village','Lakeshore Drive','Old Grant Park'
