In 1916, Westmont became one of sixteen towns served by the Rushville Improvement Company; this company built roads, installed water mains and other improvements in Rushville that made it more attractive to residents and encouraged economic development there. In 1924, Westmont accepted annexation by Chicago; since then its growth has been largely due to suburban migration within Chicago's boundaries. In 1970, when Chicago annexed most of Cook County east of Willard Road (including portions of Cicero and Park Ridge), Westmont became one of nineteen communities included in the new city limits. As a result of recent population growth within the city limits (particularly in DowntownChicago) as well as continuing suburban migration intowestontownsduringthe late twentieth centuryand early twenty-first century,[1]Westmont's boundaries have changed over time as well; for example, today much of its north side is located inside the Loop 720 business district south of State Street while much of its southeast corner is located outside that district along Ionia Avenue adjacent to Englewood

Westmont is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Westmont was founded in 1868 by Reuben Harker and his family as a farmstead on a tract of land that he had purchased from the La Salle Indians. The first post office in Westmont was established in 1870, and remained in operation until it closed in 1902. The first store on Main Street, opened in 1872 by Wm. Fenton and brothers Alonzo and Charles Harker, continued to serve the community until it burned down in 1907. In 1876, John Ladd founded what would become known as the Chicago Council for Fine Arts (CCFA). CCFA would later become the Chicago Cultural Center (CCC). In 1902, Harry Emerson Fosdick organized what became known as "The Western STARS" football team which played its home games at Park Field on North Avenue near First National Bank. The team represented Westmont interests locally and nationally; during its time period it featured some of America's most popular stars such as Amos Harris, Benny Goodman and cornetist/flute player Gene Krupa. After World War I ended with Treaty of Versailles signed between Germany and Austria-Hungary, many German-Americans moved into Illinois due to new opportunities available there after their country's collapse; however, when Prohibition started to take hold across America early in 1920s many Germans decided to stay put rather than risk being deported back to Germany should prohibition be repealed following ratification of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act by President Wilson less than two months later - thus starting one of America's largest waves of migration since Reconstruction began more than 70 years earlier. In 1925 Harrison Gray Otis donated land east of his previous property along State Street north of Lake Michigan for a college campus which would eventually become University Of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). That year also saw construction begin on UIUC's initial buildings including Otis Hall which still stands today within UIUC's Central Campus - now known as Otis Place - while Morningside Heights adjacent to UIUC soon became home to other university departments including law enforcement and engineering programs which were relocated from downtown Chicago over time onto larger campuses where they could better provide services needed by residents nearby such as North Lawndale neighborhood then becoming one of city’s poorest areas with high crime rates despite recent investment from UIUC Chancellor Edward Crolly making it one of Chicagos most vibrant neighborhoods ever characterized by increasing levels amateur sports teams throughout decade including men’s Big Ten Conference championship trophy becoming symbolically handed out each year during annual Homecoming parade through various streetsides bordering Northwestern University before finally retiringshortly thereafter prior to 2020 merger between Northwestern University & Harvard University resulting public outcry resulting former Chancellor Edward Crolly Retiring From Office At 81 yrs old
