One man who decided to invest in binoculars was Elijah Barnes. He set up his business in an old garage adjacent to his home and began selling pairs of binoculars for $1 each. Over the years, he grew his business by selling additional products such as lenses and cases. In 1916, Barnes donated some of his equipment to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign so that students could use it for research purposes. The university continued to use Barnes' equipment until 1978 when it received new equipment from him.
Westmont is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 2,582 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Westmont is known for its agricultural products and has a small grocery store and post office. The primary industry in Westmont is agriculture, but there are also some manufacturing businesses and services that have arisen over time. The town was founded in 1853 as a result of the Donation Land Act of 1851 which offered 160 acres (50 hectares) to each settler who moved into the United States from Europe with three years notice. As a result, many Germans and Irish immigrants came to Westmont during the early 1800s to donate their land to American society. In 1881, John A. Daugherty became proprietor of what would become known as Daugherty's Dairy Products Company which grew into one of Midwest America's leading dairy companies serving communities throughout Kane County until its bankruptcy in 1990. In 1966, Dennis Egan founded his own software company called Edenworks Inc., which grew into one of North America's largest software companies with more than 350 employees today. Today, Westmont features two main shopping streets - Main Street and Barton Road - which run perpendicular to each other through downtown while smaller streets branching off these two routes provide multiple retail options including several convenience stores/gas stations, an auto dealership/repair shop, a library (the first in Kane County), and health care facilities: St John’s Health & Wellness Center on Barton Road east of Main Street and Mercy Medical Center on Main Street west of Barton Road serve as major medical centers for western Kane County residents as well as residents in neighboring Lincolnshire, Rockford Hills and Beloit Park all within Reachwest Healthcare Group Inc.'s service territory covering much of suburban Chicago

Westmont is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. Westmont was founded by John West and his family in 1854. It is located in the Chicago-Naperville-Highland Park metropolitan area. In 1853, John West moved to what is now Westmont from Urbana, Illinois. He purchased one of the first lots in what would become Westmont. In 1854, he and his wife Elizabeth bought a second lot and began to build their home on it. They named their home "Westmont." The first post office was established in Westmont on December 15th, 1855. John WEST died on October 20th, 1902 after a long illness which had begun two days earlier while he was travelling to visit friends in Aurora IL; he had been elected Lieutenant Governor of Illinois that year but did not take office until November 8th due to termlimits set by the state legislature at that time! His widow Elizabeth continued to live there until her death on May 5th 1907 aged 86 years old; she left behind four children: John Jr., Everett D., Mary Alice (Mallory) and James A.. Three of these children continued to live there as residents of their grandparents home with few changes when Mallory passed away in 1978; however Everett D sold his share of the house back to theoriginal family upon Mallory's death passing away also age 86 years old on October 2nd1978 making him 96 years old On January 1st 2009 all property lines were changed from last name FERRARAattoing 3 Generations living here since 1951 including my grand parents who bought land here late 1800’s
