In 1951, Western Springs merged with neighboring Arlington Heights to form Arlington Heights-Western Springs City. In 1984, Arlington Heights-Western Springs City became Arlington Heights-Western Springs Township again when that portion of the township functionality changed hands from Urbana Township to become part of McHenry County’s Comprehensive Plan as a result of changes within that plan. The current boundaries were set in 2000 when all township functions were transferred back to McHenry County through legislation passed by the General Assembly; however annexation into other municipalities has not stopped since then! Today’sVillageof WesternSprings sprang up out of necessity after conflicts arose between farmers living near Chicago and those wanting access to cheap land eastward near Springfield due to railroad construction work which disrupted travel patterns across rural Illinois during this time period! A few years back I would have been content just living right next door but now my children are attending school here so its good times indeed…..
