Western Springs, Illinois is a city located in McLean County, Virginia. The population was 8,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLean County. The community was founded in 1847 by General David Dixon and his wife Clarissa Dixon. The first post office in Western Springs was established on July 10, 1847. On November 3 of that year, General Dixon's daughter Julia Post opened the first general store in town- this store would later become known as "The Post Office." In 1848, John Pritchard became the first white settler in what is now Western Springs when he arrived from Kentucky with his family. He built a cabin near present day Maple Street and Elm Avenue. In 1850, there were only 5 families living inWestern Springs when it incorporated as a village under the name of "Springfield". In 1861, Eastern Railway Company (ER) began construction on a line from Springfield to Fredericktown which passed through western Springfield Township and then into eastern McLean County. The company built tracks through present day Northern Virginia and constructed two stations: Springvale & Franklin Mills on either side of Route 236 (now US 50), about 1 mile east of where today's Old National Road intersects US 50 just north of town limits; and East Springfield Station on an elevation above present day Interstate 77/Route 236 intersection just outside town limits. Western Springs is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the south side of the Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 9,824 at the 2010 census. It has been part of Cook County since 1847. The first white people to live in Western Springs were farmers who settled near what is now the ZIP code 60421. They began trading goods with Indians and others along the Fox River. In 1848, they founded a small settlement called Wellsville on a tract of land east of present-day Western Springs. A year later they moved their community to its current location and named it after themselves – Western Springs. During the early 1800s, Western Springs was home to an important Native American war camp known as Fort Dearborn. The site was used by both the Illinois Winnebago Tribe and British forces during various engagements in this region during the War of 1812. In 1886, when Eastern Illinois University (EIU) opened its doors for business, many students from Northwestern Illinois decided to move west to Springfield because EIU offered better education than any other school in that area. Many residents of Wellsville began moving too, and by 1890 there were only 10 residents remaining at Western Springs proper while over 50 lived elsewhere within Cook County limits and in other nearby townships. By 1900, however, all but two residents had moved out or left for good when EIU closed its doors following financial difficulties brought about by changes in local government regulations affecting organized scholarship programs across state lines - something which had never happened before at EIU! The years that followed were difficult for both locals and visitors alike as businesses failed due to lack of customers or economic downturns throughout much of northeastern Illinois at that time; however some new businesses did start up including a grocery store/gas station complex built on State Street adjacent to Present-day Southern Indiana Drive which continues today as Live Oak Liquor Store & Grill; a Hardware & Lawn Care store also located onState Street; and finally a Post Office building completed in 1907 which remains extant today as WESTERN SPRINGS PASTORATE MUSEUM!
