Westchester, Illinois is a town in northern Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 37,819. It is the most populous municipality in Kane County and one of the most populous towns in Illinois. The name "Westchester" derives from an anglicized form of German Hofgarten (farmstead). The first settlers to what is now Westchester Township were European immigrants who arrived during the early part of the 18th century. They were farmers who settled on land that now makes up much of Kane County. One such immigrant was Johann Gottlieb Bachmann who arriving in 1768, founded a Lutheran congregation on what is now Westchester Road. In 1802, when it became part of Kane County, Westchester Township had a population just under 1,000 people and it only included parts of what are today Park Ridge and Readsville Square neighborhoods. However by 1857 there were over 10 settlements with a combined population over 6,000 people within three miles (5 km) of where he lived: Elmwood (now Addison), Fordham Village (now Morris Heights), Mount Vernon and Rye Brook Townships In 1871, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States and soon after took office moved his family to Springfield for political reasons; however he retained his home in Westchester until 1865 when he moved back into Chicago because Springfield would not allow slavery southward without congressional approval which never happened. In 1916-1917 Prior Mayor John Hynes served as mayor pro tempore for Wayne Dyer when Dyer vacated office to run for Congress but lost to incumbent Samuel Jaffe despite being supported by all three branches of government including Mayor Hynes himself! On November 3rd 1917 Ira Tilden won re-election as Ulysses S Grant’s Vice Presidential running mate receiving almost 50% more votes than General James Buchanan On December 5th 1917 after President Woodrow Wilson’s decision not to pursue World War I due to America’s financial straits – with Germany still at war – Tilden resigned from both his seat in congress as well as his Senate seat effective January 3RD 1918 becoming Secretary at War Newton Baker also resigned effective that date becoming Assistant Secretary at War though some say this may have been due to pressure brought about by General Leonard Wood’s efforts within military circles following Tilden’s resignation while others attribute it directly to Newton Baker himself having been told by Admiral Dewey that if Wilson did go into full war against Germany then failure would be assured since Woodrow Wilson had shown no interest whatsoever in going beyond neutrality . Finally on February 15TH 1918 Harry Elmer Barnes became acting Mayor pro tempore until March 12TH 1918 when George Peabody took office As mentioned earlier many residents relocated away from downtown Chicago during prohibition days making their homes near 95th Street & Harlem Avenue although some still live there today although most work uptown or outside Chicago proper . During prohibition many saloons closed down along with night life altogether as law enforcement became increasingly difficult given limited resources . Eventually repeal came about on April 16th 1920 followed by banishment several weeks later Effective May 14TH1920 majority black Shawanee community had formed east side###############################################

In 1923, voters passed an ordinance allowing women to vote without male accompaniment – making Westchester the first town in Illinoisto do so! After World War II ended, many students returned home from service abroad and began settling into what is now Southport Township (now North River Township). This influx of new settlers changed the demographics of what was once just a farming community – making it one of the most diverse townships in Illinois today! Today,Westchester remains a vibrant place where everyone can find something they love! Its apples are famous around the world; its woodlands provide plenty of opportunities for hiking and biking; and its historical landmarks make it an ideal spot for cultural activities like art exhibitions or genealogy tours.
