Westchester, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern corner of Illinois. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. Westchester is bordered by DuPage County to the south, Cook County to the east, and Kane County to the north. The village of Rye is adjacent to Westchester proper and has a population of about 1,000. Westchester was originally part of Kankakee Township. On July 10, 1847, it became a separate town when its residents ratified a petition asking for this designation. On November 3, 1857, it became an incorporated municipality under the name of "Westchester". That same year saw the first election in which citizens voted on new officers for township government and also elected trustees for school districts 2 and 3. The first post office in Westchester was established on October 15, 1868. It was moved from its original location two miles west of present-day Rye to its present site on August 14th of that year after being destroyed by fire. The current post office building was built in 1915 and dedicated by President Woodrow Wilson. In 1912-13 there were several failed attempts by farmers who hoped to get grazing rights from agriculture officials so they could maintain their herds beyond what would be allowed under state law to go past due; these efforts led directly into World War I when restrictions were placed on how much livestock could be taken without getting prior approval from state agricultural inspectors - this caused prices for meat products (and other goods) skyrocketing across America as shortages arose everywhere with no end in sight until world war II intervened

Westchester, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 17,814 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Cook County by both population and land area. It is also one of the largest towns in Illinois without an incorporated village. The first settler in what would become Westchester was George Post who founded a log cabin on the banks of the Sangamon River in 1812. In 1824, Amos Lawrence started a tannery on the same site. By 1830, there were several mills operating in and around Westchester with flour being exported to Chicago and other markets. One mill owner even built a large house for himself on Elm Street near present day Harrison Avenue and Michigan Avenue. In 1848, James Wirths began building a small plantation called "Wirths Place" two miles east of Westchester on Present day Dearborn Road and only three hundred feet from current day Davenport Road. The original home at "Wirths Place" still stands today (pictured) withstood many storms over the years including one that leveled part of downtown Chicago in 1871 during an ice storm! Wirths died childless after purchasing this property from his brother Daniel Wirths seventeen years earlier! Daniel Slingerland took over ownership from James Wirths' widow Sarah when she died after giving birth to their only child Jacob Slingerland Sr.. Sarah's daughter married John Fenton who also purchased "Worthies Place". John Fenton farmed this land until his death in 1893 when it was sold to Avant Hennepin Mills who renamed it "Hennepin Mills." The mill continued production until 1984 when it closed down due to lack of competition from other larger mills throughout southern Illinois which led to its demise; however some remnants remain today along with Hennepin Mills Park located within walking distance of both properties! In 1850 Abraham Beardsley established Beardsleys Agency which served settlers living west of Peoria along the I-670 corridor. This agency supplied goods such as food, clothing and tools needed by residents while they waited for transportation back east through points such as Springfield or Peoria to reachChicago or New York City via boat or railroads. Eventually other agencies were established providing similar services but overall farm life waned following railroads reaching Chicago much earlier than did farming which allowed for more centralized production leading to increased prices for goods shipped out across country via canal boats etc…. Since railroads bypassed rural areas there has been little regular traffic traveling through these areas making agriculture less efficient resulting in lower yields….. Today most people living west of I- 670 either work at nearby cities like Chicago or suburban jobsites commuting into those cities each day……… With all things considered though agriculture remains crucial especially given that vast majority (around 90%)of Cook County’s employment takes place outside city limits…. In spite of agricultural decline much new housing has been erected within recent decades adjacent to existing farms/ranches – primarily because many farmers have found ways “to market their product” notwithstanding formidable economic challenges….. Today some 20%of all residential growth withinCook County takes placewithin 5 miles (8 km)of central business district….. [emphasis added] Today's economy revolves around health care services, manufacturing industries (most notably plastics), professional sports teams (MLB baseball team MLB Indianapolis Colts stadium), healthcare companies such as HealtheBay Health System & Republic Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Chicagoland & Northwestern Indiana Affiliate Caremark Urology Centers Inc., real estate development (especially office space), light industrial operations…." One significant event that happened during this time period involved Abraham Beardsley's death certifying Isaac Northrop 'the man' - Northrop had finally succeeded where others hadfailed before him - he had successfully transferred title deeds from beardsley's agency operation known as 'Beardsleys Agency' back into Northrop's name becoming one entity once again! This event helped solidifyNorthrop's position as headman amongststwest Sideers following prior failures by various individuals including William Tell alias Big Bill Richardson aka 'Teller', Jno.[Jno?] McCloskey alias Johnny Powers etc….. After government investigations found no evidence linking any individual(s) with bribery or corruption regarding titles transferages regarding 'Beardsleys Agency', legal procedure reverted backtowarrior status quo antecedent to Northrop assuming leadership role…."
Westchester County was one of the original eleven counties in Illinois. It was formed on April 6, 1839 from a portion of the now-defunct Clay County. The name comes from the word "west" meaning "east" and "chester" meaning " homeland." Westchester is located in the far northeastern corner of Illinois.
