The Expand on Scope Mount is a predecessor to the current mount type in West Chicago, Illinois. It was first developed in the early 1950s by Professor John Pritzker and Dr. Harry Doolittle of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The mount was designed to allow for increased magnification when using a scope with an open tube design, such as a Newtonian telescope. In 1957, Professor Pritzker patented the expandable scope mount which became known as the "Pritzker Mount". The original design allowed for mounting an open tube telescope on top of a standard rifle stock, making it possible to increase magnification up to 10x while still using an easy-to-use platform. In 1959, Doctor Doolittle registered a patent for the "Doolittle Mount", which allowed users to attach a Dobsonian Telescope (a type of open tube telescope) onto any standard rifle stock with ease. This new mount design made it possible for users to increase magnification up to 20x while still using an easy-to-use platform.
West Chicago is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is the county seat of West Chicago Heights and was once part of the City of Chicago. The population was 73,706 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what would become West Chicago was John M. Brown in 1836. He founded a log cabin on the banks of the Des Plaines River and named it "Brown's Point." The town grew gradually until its population reached 100 people in 1854. That year, Brown sold his rights to the town to Abram Usher for $4,000. Usher developed it into an agricultural center with land grants from the federal government which he used to build roads and build churches and other infrastructure. By 1870, WestChicago had a population of more than 1,200 people and was considered one of the most prosperous small towns in America. In 1876, Mayor George Hennepin proposed that Chicago annex WestChicago Heights as part of its city limits because it had outgrown South Side Avenue as its main commercial artery. Although opposition from residents ( chiefly influential businessmen) mounted, Hennepin prevailed over City Council members Samuel Janklow and Amos Kendall and annexation became official on December 14th,. The city annexed much larger areas since then: Dearborn Park (1901), Bronzeville (1912), Armour Square (1920), Navy Pier (1925), Kenilworth Place (1927). In 1946-47 when East Side Street widened south of Third Street from two lanes to four lanes as part of highway reconstruction project there were assertions by some community leaders that WESTCHICAGO HEIGHTS should also be annexed into CHICAGO because their economy would be dwarfed by that projected for EAST SIDE STREET alone without WESTCHICAGO HEIGHTS within city limits! A referendum obtained by petition sponsored by Mayor Richard Motta proved this assertion correct; WESTCHICAGO HEIGHTS were annexed into CITY Limits on February 10th 1947! Today many businesses are located on State Street between Michigan Avenue/Wabash Avenue including Sears Roebuck & Co., Rockwell Automation Inc., ATK Electronics Inc., Ford USA LLC among others
