The community name derived from Iowa German settlers who founded Westville during their migration westward in1847-48 into what is now Kane County: Haverfordwest ville or Heverwolde (meaning "place where wheat grows"), referring to an area near present-day Winnetka Heights known for its large stands of white clover which were used for haystacks before mechanization made this practice obsolete around 1840s. The original settler families arrived overland via a wagon road from Des Moines through Fort Dodge on October 30th 1847 and named their new home "Haverfordwest ville", also meaning "wheatgrowing place". The village site lay within present day Winnetka Heights but due to occasional flooding difficulties they located sinking wells deep enough into bedrock to provide water for their barns & gardens below while still allowing surface water flow to irrigate their fields adjacent to Lake Michigan - thus becoming one watering point for many farmers throughout Northwestern Illinois! By 1872 there were 36 homes & 5 businesses including 2 mills running 600 pounds/day @ $1 per pound! These early days marked another important milestone in American settlement as prior efforts by General George Armstrong Custer's 4th Cavalry Brigade under Major James Hickey failed miserably due primarily to lack of open land eastward beyond Streator Creek & unable railroads access these regions
